Are you kidding me! $3.50 charge for a quesarito! It is a handful of melted cheese! A full blown quesadilla, small chips and drink is $3.75! According to the manager, "This takes effect today! Due to extra cost of product (cheese) and time it takes to make it. It holds up the line!" Horrible, I can maybe understand $1.00 but $3.50. I will be taking my business elsewhere; somewhere where they know how to actually do business! Now that I think about it, I bet it was supposed to be $0.35, but it does say that on my receipt. #chipotle #horriblebussiness #wayoverpriced #spreadtheword

I generally like Chipotle, but I'm not a fan of this location. The lines here can be out the door at times, so when we came on a Fri afternoon we were pleasantly surprised there was no line. I ordered my typical veggie bowl. Normally the server gives a heaping serving of each item, but today the spoonful for each item wasn't even full. My veggie bowl looked pretty sad. I usually like Chipotle chips. They can be a bit salty at times, but they have a hint of lime which I like. The chips we ordered today were a bit stale and tasted like grocery store chips. Not horrible, but also not what I have been used to or what I was expecting. I wasn't sure if it was just our bag, but when we exchanged it, the new bag was just the same. I was a bit disappointed in the food. On the plus side, the restaurant was very clean and we'll stock.

I usually don't write reviews on fast casual dining establishments like chipotle because you know the exact quality of the food, and service that you're receiving. But, I felt a strong urge to highlight this girl's burrito wrapping skills. I came in with my roommate around 11:00 AM, and found 6 people in front me, I decided to order a burrito because what else would you order there? Seemed like a normal day to me, as i went down the assembly line of food. I ordered brown rice, black beans, fajitas, steak, pico de gallo, 2x scoop of corn, yes i think i finally make enough for guacamole, and whatever is left over. Finally it came down to the wrapping. I knew it was a struggle for this girl when she over folded the flaps of the burrito as if she was trying to recreate a chinese take home box. Come on, you know the burrito defeated you if you can't wrap that in 30 seconds. But no, I admired her resilience as she began to unfold, and fold in all the same directions of a circular burrito wrap. She was able to again surprise me with another new burrito wrapping technique as she started to vigorously fold all she can in half to begin a sensual deep tissue massage of what was left of my burrito. At this point, I was speechless, and a little embarrassed at the long line that has formed behind me. The line even wrapped outside, and probably went into ralphs in which those people were lucky enough to go gather ingredients for their own burritos. Needless to say, she stopped trying to wrap the burrito as I gazed at what ended up looking like 2 day old burrito bowl on top of a disfigured tortilla. Finally, she had to call in another tortilla, and after 30 more seconds my burrito was finally done being wrapped by the cashier. Overall, the burrito tasted the same as all the other burritos I have ate here. On another note, my roommate that went before me is upset that they skimped him on his burrito bowl. He said, "I don't understand why she gave me such little rice, like that was her personal rice for the week or something", smh.

Throughout my four years at UCSD, I never had a bad experience with these guys! Chipotle in itself is one of the world's greatest creations, so giving this establishment any less than four stars is offensive to all things in existence. The line moves quicker here than any of the 5-7 other locations I've ever been to. The parking lot is really odd and crammed, but not much of an issue if you know how to drive and park right. In addition, I've always received generous portions from here relative to other Chipotle locations + the people there are awesome! I worked with these guys quite a bit when I had to order loads of burritos for school events. They were extremely flexible and always a pleasure to work with.

Probably my third time ever ordering from Chipotle.....and they definitely do not disappoint! Came here on a Tuesday evening (around 6 pm) with a friend for a quick dinner. I ordered a Sofritas Bowl. Pros: -line moved fast, despite "traffic hours". -good amount of each topping/item to create that perfect burrito or bowl. -clean environment! Water is free for all, and it is a very spacious location despite how small it looks from the outside. -window seating/outdoor seating available. Yay for more options! -food is piping hot. (well, rice, beans and meats/veggies are.) Yum! -guacamole: AMAZING! Super fresh. Must get, even if it's an extra $1.29 (about?) Cons: -haven't found any so far.... Will definitely be a regular customer!

I love Mexican food. I would definitely pick a Mexican dish over an Asian dish any day (unless it's Orange Chicken from Panda Express). But Chipotle isn't "real" Mexican. I guess I just really enjoy eating their burritos. Spice is the variety of life. Also, try substituting for their bowls and add the tortilla on the side.

I've been to this Chipotle countless times as a student since it's right next to Ralphs and Trader Joe's. Because of this the parking can sometimes be a nightmare. There's always a ton of UCSD students eating here but there is plenty of seating and the place is very clean. Came here on a weekend night for a quick meal. The line moved very fast. My go to is always a steak burrito. I mean it's Chipotle and this place is always solid.

Whoever is the oversize white guy taking orders should be fired for horrible customer service and giving the least possible sized portion. I'll never come back. Rude AF dude I'll punch if I see him outside

Workers gave me a spoon full of rice, meat, lettuce, sauce, corn, cheese. Go to a different chipotle unless it's for your one year old.

  • Dan L.

I've been to this chipotle multiple times and it has been consistent each time. You get the food quick and easily and I haven't had a bad experience here yet.

  • Elen H.

I love Chipotle, but this location gives you WAY WAY WAY less in your bowl/burrito than the other UTC location just down the road at Costa Verde. The location is convenient next to Trader Joes/Ralphs/Starbucks, but don't go to this location, go to the one at Costa Verde! At first I thought that it was just an off-day, but they are totally ripping you off here.

  • Jannet C.

Chipotle is awesome, period. The flavors are always classically delicious and good portion size for the price! I feel that this chipotle is more flavorful than the ones at home: I barely needed to use my favorite green Tabasco sauce (that's pretty awesome if the food could stand on it's own.) The servers were all chill and the place was tidy enough (except the outside- I had something red and weird on my table). One thing that really miffed me was that I got just a TINY bit of veggies in my bowl. Yeah- I understand there wasn't a lot of roasted veggies left in the container BUT COME ON! Little Asian girl with vegetable cravings wants to get her money's worth! I wanted to speak up, but wow, they just moved too quick..

I have always been a fan of Chipotle. From their no can opener policy, to their commitment to quality of their meat. BUT, after spending the last 5 hours throwing up, this relationship has ended. I ate NOTHING yesterday, except for a slice of bread for lunch and then Chipotle at about 8:30. It seemed fine, tasted ordinary, but at 2:30 I woke up with an intense pain in my stomach and proceeded to throw up for the next 5 hours. I thought this might be a 1 off situation, but my roommate actually also got food poisoning from the exact same location. I can't even bear the thought of Chipotle without feeling my stomach churn. It might be because it was later in the day, it might be that an employee did not adhere to health laws and resulted in my pain. Either way, I'm done with Chipotle.

  • Jessica S.

Why even bother to go there? Guacamole is extra which is stupid and every single time I go I see the manager or who ever she is grabbing lunch and making the line slow cuz she has to eat ....

    (1)
  • Ryan K.

Honestly this is the worst chipotle location I've ever been to. It seems as the employees woke up on the wrong side of the bed. They were at best rude. Secondly, the portions provided were very small. Maybe half of the spoon. Don't bother going to this location.

    (1)
  • Mei Z.

Honestly a hit or miss. When my family came down, the employees all seemed to wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Portions were skimped and they all gave me attitude. However, typically the service is okay, nothing special. Nobody seems cheerful as they are at the other chipotle location near costa verse/utc. I'd say migrate over there and get the most bang for your buck, as well as a few sweet smiles.

A healthy alternative for Mexican food. I love this place so much, it makes me drool just thinking about their delicious burritos and bowls :))) I usually get the burrito bowl with: -chicken -brown rice -black beans -extra lettuce -green chili salsa -cheese and I just love this combination because it was simple, juicy, filling, healthy, a little spicy, savory, and sweet all in one heavenly bite. I wish I was eating that bowl right now.

    (5)
  • Chris M.

This place is cloud 9. The staff is friendly and the place is really huge! So many tables and space because it was originally used as a training facility for chipotle peeps!

    (5)
  • Lila M.

Went in and got a bowl. Noticed that i was getting less and less as I progressed though the line. Why doesn't my bowl look full? The chiptole team member who was behind me had her bowl overflowing. When the cashier rang me up I asked why was my portion so small? He stated it was part of their waste initiative program. I'm sorry I didn't opt in on this and how come the employees aren't participating in this? When I asked about the price he said the pricing is the same. So if you want to get screwed then go here otherwise take your business elsewhere.

I used to love Chiptole until I came to this particular Grill. My roommate, myself, and two others have all received food poisoning from this Chiptole over the past three years from meat and produce items. Either someone needs to wash their hands at work or the Health Dept. needs to come and inspect this particular restaurant.

Had a really bad experience at this location of Chipotle. I love Chipotle and when seeing a new location pop up around the area I would like to go try it out. You would think all the locations give you the same service but NOPE. First off, parking here is CRAZY. You will be lucky to find a really close parking and everyone is just out there to fight for parking in this small shopping center. Second off, the workers are are not happy with their job. They do not welcome you when you come in and do not even smile at all when serving the food! I was really upset when I asked for a steak bowl and when I asked for more salad, the girl put on THREE pieces of salad....I then asked if I could have more and she looked annoyed and added on TWO small piece of the cut salad. I was so angry by the time I had to pay for my food. I am paying $7 for my meal and my bowl looked tiny. There was barely any meat, everything was in tiny portions (compared to the portions I would get at all of the other chipotle locations) and I literally had like 10 pieces of small cut up salad in my bowl. I was pissed off and really disappointed with the service here. DO NOT GO HERE. Go to the Chipotle in the down at the Five Guy's/Yogurtland area. Way better service there and they give you the amount that you paid for.

    (1)
  • Joe D.

To start...the staff is rude! The portions suck. One small scoop of meat but a whole spoon full worth of sour cream... What the...These people look like they hate their job. The Chipotle over at the Costa Verde Center is way better and I can not emphasize that enough. Some people might just say well then just go to that Chipotle, but why would I have to go elsewhere to get better service? That makes no sense at all and on another note the food made my friend and I both feel sick! Oh and don't go here unless you want to have some one look at you like you're annoying the f*** out of them.

I had a very nice "Unburritable" salad bowl from here the other day after my shopping at Trader Joe's next door. For $8.20, I got a bowl withe grilled chicken, grilled peppers, shredded cheese, and mound of guacamole on a bed of fresh romaine. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/chip… ) The salad bowl was the perfect low carb lunch. The heaping pile of guacamole was fresh and after a sprinkling of black pepper I dug in with earnest. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/chip… ) The grilled chicken was nicely cooked and lightly seasoned. I did wish there were more of it, but I least what I had, was tender with good flavor. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/chip… ) The romaine below was practically all dark leaf which is a big plus for me. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/chip… ) Although, I squeezed a little lemon and used the guacamole as my dressing, I did however, on the side, try their signature spicy vinaigrette. ( yelp.com/biz_photos/chip… ) The dressing had a mild kick, with a solid but pleasant vinegar after tasted. Good stuff. The service was friendly and quick.......and I would eat this Unburritable salad bowl anytime....really.

Your typical chipotle. They have fast service and good consistent portions. Reliable place to get chipotle for UCSD students

    (4)
  • Marlene J.

I love Chipotle because it's a healthier alternative to the regular mexican fast food places. I like to forgo the rice in my Barbacoa burrito to lessen its carb content and the result is still delicious! I must agree with some of the other Yelp reviewers, when saying this location skimps on their meat though. For that reason only, I had to lower my rating from a 4-star to a 3-star. A couple of years ago, their burritos were so loaded that I couldn't finish it at lunch, so I'd take the rest home for dinner and THAT still filled me up.

    (3)
  • Joseph G.

Chipotle is good, but too overhyped. I myself feel that it deserves a three but I know too many people that love it. The barbacoa was really good. I think sour cream is a must.

    (4)
  • Jessica V.

I'm truly disappointed with this location. The service lacking in every way. No smiles, no hello, no thank you. The portions were also on the small side. Even the guest next to me commented on how small the portions were. Unless you want to leave hungry pass on this location.

    (1)
  • Andrew Y.

The workers skimp out way too much on the portions here. Every. Single. One of them. There isn't one person that I've met in the handful of times that I've gone that's actually been decent in the portions they hand out, much less generous. You basically end up paying 7.50 for a lettuce/rice/cheese or whatever you get burrito with a few pieces of meat. Literally. What is this madness.

    (2)
  • Jason C.

Chipotle is always very good no matter what you get. Except I had a really bad experience with one of the workers at this location. I came in on Sunday afternoon and it was a very slow day for them. When the worker asked me what I want to get, I told them I wanted to order 3 burrito bowls and a burrito. She quickly responded with "wait what?" and gave me a very confused face. I told her what I wanted to ordered again and she replied with an annoying "ugh". I understand if I came in on a busy time but there was literally 2 people after me so I don't understand why it was so difficult for her to start me a few burrito bowls and burritos. Its not like she helps me with the rest of my order either because it gets passed along to other workers and all she needed to do was to throw in some rice and beans. I hope that management can keep their workers in check and if they can't handle their job without making a smart ass response then they should just quit. Very disappointed in the service I got today and would suggest going to the Chipotle down the street across from UTC mall instead.

  • Ernie P.

Recently tried Chipotle and fell in love with their food. Fresh, simple, and healthy. I've been to various locations and the portions are very generous. However, the portions at this location are small and you kind of wonder why your paying $7 for such a small portion of food. Service is okay compared to the other locations. Food is consistent with the other locations which is a plus. But my main complaint is the portions.

    (3)
  • Sophie L.

I regularly visit this location for my Chipotle fix. It is pretty average in terms of service; food tastes the same. What you get is pretty varied. Unfortunately, there is a new worker at this location and they give sooooo little meat. I watched this worker do the other orders too and it's the same for all the other orders. I'll be going to other locations from now on.

YO I LOVE THIS PLACE with the force of a thousand waterfalls! one time i came in smiling cus i was just happy to be there and DAMN! i got a free meal. i walked out with an even bigger smile! i love this place cus theyre nice and they give good portions to me. nomnomnom. also...i take a lot of napkins and lemons.

I really like Chipotle, but this one is alright. Service-wise, they aren't bad. But they like to skimp out and they don't give you that much even if you ask for "extra". Food tastes just the same as any other Chipotle though.

I like how their meat is grass fed and definitely love the fact that the line (if any) moves fast. the food is delicious, healthy and satisfying. The staff members are very friendly, polite and quick on their feet. I remember the first time I saw their sign, I couldn't even pronounce it but today is part of my weekly vocab. we go there practically once a week and not get tired of the food, because what ever you get, always taste good. the place has always been clean from the bathrooms to the tables and floors, every time we go there.

Ugh. I've been to a few different Chipotle's just because of the convenience and try to convince myself that it'll be better each time. I won't forget my 1st time at a Chipotle and experiencing a rather rubbery tortilla for my burrito, finding it rather difficult to chew...and I will not forget my experience I had last night which finally made me realize I will never step foot in this place again. I ordered 3 tacos, chips & guac and luckily I had water because EVERYTHING was SO salty!!!!!!!!! I thought it was just my strong taste buds but my mom, who had the same thing, also was chugging water due to the heavy load of salt on each thing! So gross. I rarely salt anything to begin with so to consume all this in one sitting made me feel so gross! I know some people that love this place and I still have yet to understand why! Go to Rubio's - I've been there 100 times and I have never had a bad experience!

  • Dylan H.

This was my okay-I-am-tired-and-I-don't-give-a-dang place during college. Very convenient to order online and have a forearm-sized burrito in your mouth within ten minutes. You know what to expect with Chipotle, unauthentic and fairly fresh ingredients. Not the best Mexican (you're in San Diego, duh) and certainly not the best bang for your buck, but worth a stop every now and then.

    (3)
  • Lei C.

Perfect place to go after the gym. The food is healthy and delicious. The way to go is getting the burrito bowl and tortilla on the side. Also feel free to ask for more if they don't give you enough. I love the barbacoa if that's how you spell it. It has a little bit of a kick to it. I also like the freshness of all the ingredients they have.

    (5)
  • Wil C.

Food was very salty. From the chips to the chicken. Had 4 drinks before I was even done with my 3 tacos.

    (3)
  • Tania K.

Huge portion sizes for a small price! And I just love how I can get my food within minutes. Their guacamole is yum! This location isn't as busy as the one across from Westfield-UTC. Recommend trying it out.

    (5)
  • Christina T.

I'm one of those people who like to know all the ingredients in my meal, which is why it takes me so long to order food at restaurants with very vague menu items. Chipotle makes everything easy and simple, since you choose what you want in your meal. Oh? Extra scoops of rice, lettuce, and fresh salsa gratis? Don't mind if I do. In close proximity to work? Don't mind that either! I only get the bowls with steak meat after I found out how fattening the tortilla is (empty calories), and my burritos always broke from all the double helpings I had. Pretty much fail proof when I get the bowl.

    (4)
  • Kirsten A.

I love Chipolte but this comment is directed towards this location only. Unfriendly service and the portion of meat was ridiculously small. Not worth the $8. Been to many other locations and never had any issues.

    (2)
  • Karla B.

The options are plain and simple but I love the chicken! If I could, I would eat there every day. I can always expect the food to taste great, and it's a pretty chill environment. There really isn't much to say except that if you haven't been there, check it out :) BUT stay away from the tortilla chips. I don't know why this always happen but they don't cook them through all the way. What you end up getting is a tortilla chip that bends when you bite it.. and then a little bit of oil follows. Some rare times, the chips are nicely fried. Proceed with caution.

If you're a UCSD student, this is probably a place to grab some food if you have 10 bucks laying around after you buy your expensive books. Lunch time gets really crowded with all the students and everyone else that frequents this location for their lunch break. Portions went from really good to really skimpy as of late. And this isn't from a one-time experience. I still have a fake Mexican food craving and Chipotle is the closest and fastest for that. Each time, I feel like they barely scoop any rice into my bowl. They skimp out on the meat. Then they add a few pieces of lettuce. Anytime you want "extra" of something, they write on your lid so they can charge you every little dollar. Parking here is ridiculous. Whoever designed that Ralph's parking lot needs to re-evaluate their design degree. So good luck finding parking if you want Chipotle. Watch out for pedestrians and cars as well.

    (3)
  • Kelley K.

I enjoy the consistent quality and convenience. I often grocery shop, but then go here to get my next meal instead of cooking. It helps to try and avoid noon or 5pm, but they are quick and efficient.

I've been to many many Chipotles and this one is by far the smallest burrito and burrito bowl I've ever received... I'm typically a very positive person and hate giving poor reviews but I was so surprised that I asked, "Are you running out of food?" The worker laughed and said "Yes." The service occurred around 7PM on 12/8/2014 and inspired me to join Yelp.

  • Niti B.

Awesome place! People are friendly. I highly advise going 30-60 min prior to closing. They end up giving you larger portions (as if the portions weren't big enough!). Line can be long, during dinner time. Parking is sometimes a pain, but food wise they always hit the spot!

    (5)
  • Aleksandra B.

The steak burrito is tasty good, but very undercooked, looks bloody. I had to ask them to make it well done. Prices are reasonable, and fast service.

  • Denise K.

I can eat a whole burrito in one sitting. Can you? A 2,000 calorie burrito, you say? Who's calorie counting anyways? I fear nothing! Chipotle wouldn't franchise in Hawaii, so I was left without a Chipotle for 2 whole years. There's just something about this Americanized burrito shop that I dig. Is it the lime rice? The carne asada cubes? The barbacoa? The guacamole? The corn salsa? The salted lime chips? Hmmm, another one of life's imponderables. There are some chains that do no wrong. This is one of them. Fast, convenient, yummy, consistent, takes Triton Cash.

Super awesome staff. When they ran out of the soda I wanted, the manager offered me a coupon for a free burrito. Then when they refilled the soda, brought me a replacement cup. He is so nice and cute, I'll definitely be back.

Back when I used to go to UCSD, this would be one of my favorite places to go out and grab food with friends, especially before catching a movie. I just went here recently, and it was just as good as it has always been. Service was quick and the employees were very friendly. The place was very clean. They came out with a new "meat," or rather, a tofu-rific recipe. Since it was new, I asked to taste test it to see if I would like it. And being the carnivore that I am, I was impressed. I decided to take a chance and get a burrito with the tofu in it, and it was absolutely delicious. I think I've found a new favorite flavor.

On super busy times, I feel like I'm being really rushed to choose what I want. The first time I was at a Chipotle, I had no idea what I was doing. I knew it was similar to Subway, but I didn't really know about all the options. Also, this Chipotle is kind of on the inconsistent side. I've been here a few times and the size of my burrito depends on who served me. Sometimes, I get a smaller sized burrito and other times, it's busting open where they need to re-wrap it. The food is good. No lie. I love me some carnitas. I just wish it was more consistent in size and did not make me feel quite as rushed.

Go to any actual Mexican food establishment in San Diego and you will pay half the price for much better food. The fact that people eat here blows my mind. Your getting ripped of!!! Classic corporate chain where every employee followed a colorful picture and can;t think for their own.

Carol's Chipotle Chicken Bowl: - half white/half brown rice (i love the cilantro rice here, so delish :) - black beans (mmmm good for digestion and adds lotsa flava to the rice) - fajita vegetables (honestly i like to eat these the next day, my bowl usually lasts me two meals and my second meal i always pick out the veggies and eat them cold... just a weird habit of mine :) lols - chicken - mild salsa - EXTRA CORN SALSA pleaseeeeeeeeeee! my fave :P - sour cream on the side - cheeeeeeeeeese - lettuce and to top off my final chipotle masterpiece... i drizzle on some of that smoked chipotle flavored tabasco sauce and mix it all around! just came back from lunch here and oh my... did you all hear?? Chipotle's starting to sell margaritas! :O with patron tequila... mMmMmm ;) i think i'm gonna have to give that a try one day, or how about you all try that one out and lmk know how that goes :P funny randomness: my parents had the hardest time saying "Chi-poht-ley" when i first told them about it... mama - " what is triple A?" papa - "where is chi-poh-lay?" teehees.

What make me so love Chipole? The Bowl is never fail in my heart! I always order Chipole Bowl! and now it's buy one get one free! expired today! Oops.... Anyways, I wonder what's the different between salad and bowl!

While the food itself is what is expected, it was the customer service that really threw me off. I came here with my friend, and from the start we were shown attitude. We asked if a coupon we had brought was valid, and rather than answer us, we simply received a nasty response and dirty looks. The rest of the experience followed suit. Again, the food was decent, but the customer service ruined the entire experience.

  • Jeremy S.

These are UCSD students working here, right? UCSD is one of the top public universities in the country. It is harder to get into UCSD than UCLA. These are supposed to be the brightest of the bunch. Everyone working at this Chipotle looks college-aged. UCSD is a mile away. I think I am safe in assuming these are UCSD students working here. Point being, the slack-jawed mouth-breathers working here flat-out cannot handle the most basic of instruction, and I weep for this state if these are the best and the brightest that we have to offer. If I was at a Chipotle near SDSU, I would fully expect that the students working there would need to be talked to...very slowly....like grade-school children. But not at this Chipotle location! I have a problem with rice in my burrito. It is useless filler and the only real purpose it serves is to sop up all the juice from the beans and meat so you are not left with a soggy, sloppy mess. I always ask for no rice in my burrito at Chipotle. In addition to asking for no rice, I ask that before the server just slops that massive spoonful of beans and juice onto the tortilla, that the server please drain the liquid from the beans first. Makes sense, right? Most of the time the spoon is only half-full of beans and the other half is all liquid. Lots of liquid + flour tortilla - rice to sop up the juice = soggy, sloppy mess. They cannot handle this basic task. I give up on about the third attempt to ask that the server please drain as much liquid from the beans before adding it to the tortilla. I guess I could just skip the beans too, but at that point my burrito is gonna be about the size of a taquito. It is hopeless trying to ask a server at this Chipotle to do anything outside the box. Be warned.

No joke...portions here are midget-sized and coming from me that's saying a lot. I usually finish about 2/3 of the burrito and no-more. This time..I finished the whole thing AND I wasn't even that hungry. Also, I asked for extra rice since I skip the fart-beans...and the girl put a little extra...which is still less than every other Chipotle's average serving of rice. The staff was friendly. Parking lot is a nightmare...pay attn when driving through this lot. Not-so-funny story...keep in mind I started the revew while I was eating and specifically commenting on the crappy parking and to pay attention as if your first and only male child's life depended on it. Well...not 10 minutes later...I get up to leave....noting to self to not drive fast in this lot. Then I hop in the car to leave....looking both ways 4 times...slowly begin backing out....stop...put it in drive (foot on brake still)...see this guy backing up....right towards me....lay on the horn....BAM....no joke. Nice new dent in the wife's new car (his insurance covered it and fixed it since). Needless to say - avoid this parking lot like the plague...unless of course you enjoy driving at 1mph all-the-while doing your best to avoid peds as they walk aimlessly while not looking and talking on their cellphone...throw in chewing bubble gum and "fuggettabowtit". All I have to say is this is one of those parking lots where one could easily want to blow their horn at ya, show ya their middle digit, and then smile at your stup a$$. Sorry Chipotle...you lost 1 star on the slim portions...lost 1 when I asked for extra and it was still slim....lost 1 more when some a$$hole backed into my car. I still love ya....will just try to avoid this location in the future.

Staff was great but this was definitely the smallest chipotle burrito I've ever received. I eat chipotle all the time but wont come back to this one...

I love chipotle! I go here all the time and it truly is great-as far as chipotle and fast Mexican can go. I usually get the bowl with sofritas (seasoned tofu), black beans, brown rice, lettuce, mild salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. I have never had a bad bowl at this particular location!! Come here for Chipotle heaven!

I have to say this location is more often than not SKIMPY on portions of chicken. They may want to rename the burrito to rice burrito with chick. The only remedy seems that if you come on off times.

This place had a ridiculous 2 for1 coupon deal which meant lines pouring the doors for weeks, UCSD students, on a budget. This is a go-to place for lunch and quick Mexican food. There are no Chipotle's in Canada as Chris noted, sigh. Mucho Burrito is close but no cigar. Fast, effective, made -to-order burritos, massive and stuffed. Not exactly cheap but delicious and hit-the-spot good. In the mall so you can get your shop on and then fill up. Between Chipotle, Regent's Pizzeria and Fleming's - this was my local food triangle of deliciousness.

I always enjoy the food here. The Burrito with half carnitas & half barbacoa always hits the spot. I almost don't even mind paying extra for guacamole, but I wish it was free. Overall, efficient service and good food.

This is my second day in a row of having some Chipotle for lunch, but this experience was definitely not as good as the one in Mira Mesa. For starters, I could barely understand the woman behind the counter because her accent was so thick and her voice was so small. It took several tries and a hold up in the line to finally get across the line, but finally managed to get there. I went with the chicken tacos this time with the black beans, fresh tomato and corn salsas, sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. The beans were extremely wet and made it very messy to eat the tacos without spilling all over the place. Likewise, the tacos were carelessly slopped together and I was forced to finish the lot with a fork. I was definitely unable to differentiate the flavors like I could at the Mira Mesa location and the ingredients didn't seem as fresh. I'm not sure if it was the food quality, service, or location, but this Chipotle was definitely not as pleasant to eat at. Despite being fairly slow, many of the tables were left dirty and nobody seemed to care to wipe them down as they did at the other location. From the expectation of a good experience alone, I don't think I would return. Food: 6/10 Service: 4/10 Price: $ Atmosphere: 4/10

I have been coming here for a few years and it's always been hit and miss. My most recent visit was very good though. The staff was very friendly and generous with the portion of chicken in my burrito. When they are busy they don't put enough meat and if you ask for a little more they want to charge you. Anyway, the price is cheap and the food is tasty. Especially now that they are using rBST-free chicken and have an option for brown rice. Way to keep it healthy

I never realized this Chipotle was here until today. The biggest downside was the small parking spots and the manical drivers zooming around the strangely configured parking lot. The upside - rolled in around 11:45 and the line was only three people. Completely different from the Mission Valley location, which would probably have a line out the door. I ordered the featured bowl - which was Carnitas bowl for the first time - exactly as described on the menu. The pork was very lean and tasty. The veggies plentiful and crisp. And a large portion of rice, black beans and corn. The bowl portion was so huge, I could only finish half. Of course, I had to eat all the tasty carnitas. Next time I will add salsa and ask them to leave off the cheese. And by the time I was sitting down to eat, the line was out the door. So try to get here early for lunchtime.

Maybe it's nostalgia or the way the hot salsa makes me feel all warm and fuzzy...but I just enjoy Chipotle in all the many forms the menu manifests itself into food for my belly. I almost always get a burrito bowl, and on a rare occasion a burrito, and carnitas or steak are my 'go-to' meats. Love the black beans and you can't go wrong with any of their salsas...the hot salsa being my addiction. The best beverage complement to my meal is always a Barq's rootbeer...I suspect because its got bite, and that is what I think you will be doing once you order from this delish eating establishment.

Burrrrrito Bowl por favor! The good thing about ordering a burrito bowl is that you can order the tortilla on the side, so if you feel like a burrito later on, you can just roll your own. Here's what I like to get: - Half steak, half chicken (for the price of one meat) - Medium and mild salsa - Corn salsa - Rice and 1/2 scoop of black beans - Fajita - Lettuce and cheese - Chipotle Vinaigrette on the side The vinaigrette really give the bowl a zest that is absolutely amazing for fast food! So I was doing some research on the chipotle website and realized that most of the calorie count comes from the sour cream, so I cut that out of my order all together. However, some days I do indulge myself and order it anyway, but instead I order it on the side so I can aliquot the amount that I really want on there (instead of a heaping ladle-full). Also, the chipotle website makes it really convenience on ordering dishes for those days where you're stuck at work and just want to make a quick 5 min stop to grab lunch. I've used this so many times and it was worked out in cutting the time of waiting in line and ordering in half. :] So my FRIENDLY TIP of the day is (1) get the vinaigrette dressing, (2) get the sour cream on the side, and (3) order online for those grab-n-go days!

It's been a few years, but this was the very first Chipotle I ever visited. Being from Western Canada originally, there is no Chipotle there, in fact the only two in Canada are in Toronto. I was impressed at the speed of service, the quality of ingredients, and sheer portion size. Being my first time, the staff were helpful in guiding me through the process and getting my order made to my tastes. From my first step into the restaurant to my last step out it was nothing but a positive experience. This location is what made me a Chipotle fan for life. Nov. 30-day challenge 26/30

I don't get why every worker here is barking out commands and practically throwing the bowls to the next person like their life depends on it. It's not THAT popular... It tastes like Chipotle... which is a good thing, but the Chipotle at home gives me about 2x as much of everything. I can't even finish a burrito bowl at home, but here I can scarf down a bowl and still be hungry.

ive been comin here for a long time and always enjoyed the service, everyone has always been so sweet and gracious to me.... until one day i had the unfortunate opportunity to meet, from what i have now learned, the general manager. i believe her name is shauna or shaina. never have i ever been treated so disrespectfully over what i wanted in a simple burrito lol!!!!! to be honest i was a shocked and you can tell that her coworkers were utterly embarrassed by their managers poor social skills. this is the reason why i have takin 2 stars off my rating... i was so infuriated that i decided to stay and eat my food there so i can file a complaint personally with her but her coworker who had witnessed the whole episode came over and apologized for her managers behavior. if it wasnt for the sweet blonde, i believe her name was jane, i would have followed through with the complaint and made sure appropriate action was takin, because from the look on the employees faces this must happen a lot. hopefully you can replace her with a much nicer person with better costumer service

Line me up like I'm in a prison mess hall. I ordered the chicken bowl for $6.25 and they only gave me a 1/2 spoonful of rice, beans and chicken. Guacamole is extra for $1.90. The prison food was cold but the service was good.

My visit here made me question whether I'm actually obsessed with Chipotle's food or just the green jalapeño Tabasco sauce. They were out of it and my burrito was without it's charm. Still good, but I like-a-da-spice!

  • Alice C.

Oh dear. You ran out of Chipotle Tabasco (aka crack sauce) on me, and that makes me a saaaaad panda. But due to your super convenient location, spacious interior (they have booths at this one!), and friendly service*, I'll be back...just make sure it never happens again :-P *This is the only Chipotle where I've seen servers come by and pick up your tray and basket for you. On 2 separate occasions, I've been asked how my meal was. Looks like they nailed the customer service part!

If you're hungry and you know it clap your hands! If you're hungry and you know it clap your hands! If you're hungry and you know it And you really want to show it If you're hungry and you know it clap your hands! And then go to Chipotle. The key to this place is to order with a big smile. The nicer you are, the bigger portions you will get. Also, on Halloween, if you wear some tin foil, you'll get a free burrito. That kind of makes up for the lack of free drinks, don't you think, Jon T.?

Steak bowl with white rice, grilled veggies, quarter spoonful of both black and pinto beans, double scoop of pico de gallo, corn, sour cream, guac, cheese, lettuce, and lots of lemon and the chipotle flavored tabasco sauce. Perfection. One of my fave "fast food" places when I'm craving Mexican flavors. I usually have a little prayer before I walk in hoping to get the nice employee who will give me extra meat when I ever so politely ask for it. Jackpot! Tonight was one of those nights! HUZZAH! I seriously love this meal and look forward to it every once a month or so. I also love this Chipotle's location and interior. Plenty of seating available and I can easily mosey on over to Ralphs and Trader Joe's to buy my groceries and burn off some of those calories!

Favorite chipotle in La Jolla. They usually give a lot of food which is how I measure my chipotle's since they're pretty much all the same. I don't exactly know why but this chipotle tastes better than the new one that opened up on Gennessee. My boyfriend claims its because the one on gennessee was saltier but I think the one of Gennessee somehow had... runnier food? I don't know if that even makes sense haha but I know if I want chipotle, this is the one I go to. Four stars because occasionally they're a little stingy with the food.

This Review is based on the Chipotle rating scale, compared to other chipotle restaurants. Are you joking? This is by far the worst Chipotle experience I have EVER had in my life. If I lived in San Diego and was going to go back here I would have a talk with the manager for sure. Walked in at lunch time long line, okay no big deal. Get to the front the associate gives me a baby scoop of rice in my bowl. Okay no big deal I will have no beans and barbacoa. She literally gave me the scraps of the meat. It was clearly empty and instead of saying sorry sir we are out she dug up the fat and whatever else was left in there and gave it to me. Chipotle by training is supposed to give out 4oz of meat. I got 2 and you could not call what I got meat. Then I got a baby scoop of anything else I asked for and left. I hope the manager would know how to properly train his staff but I guess that is asking for too much. I will never ever go back to this location. I was insulted by this sub par Chipotle experience, they need to learn how Chipotle's run in Nor Cal.

This was the only eatery that I was really craving while waiting for a movie. Chris C. went to get a chicken burrito as I waited in line. He didn't return until 20 mins later. Apparently, everyone and their moms were in line and he mentioned that it was super packed and the line was out the door for orders. Popular place to be I guess. We shared a chicken burrito and chips and guac. I was starving so I inhaled my half of the burrito. Didn't get many chicken chunks and the chicken was actually cold. I was disappointed. I forgot that the chips and/or guac was really salty. I think it's the chips??? But wow, I couldn't take it anymore and I felt myself starting to swell since I didn't have any water.

To think! Chipotle is owned by McDonalds!?!?! This is truely the best side of the McD's conglomerate. Chipotle is reliable, delicious, filling food. It's not healthy. Don't let the lack of fried items fool you. This stuff WILL kill you young. God, a burrito here, if you do it right, can feed you twice. As a grad student, this gets my hearts thumbs up. They have booze. And tabasco to your heart's delight. Yeah, overall, if you just did a hard workout, or a long day of work, and you want some texican food, chipotle is cheap and always good.

My friends always insist on coming here, but I'm not THAT big of a fan. I prefer my "Mexican" food greasier and with more meat. The burritos here have shrunk over the last few years and theyre so stingy on the meat. Sadtimes. Oh wells, recessionnneddddd. The ingredients are high quality and fresh. You can definitely taste the difference. Fairly cheap prices and the service is fast. Not too bad for a quick bite. The guacamole is DELICIOUS.

What's not to love about Chipotle?? Fast, friendly service? Check! Cheap, college-budget-friendly prices? Check! Deliciousness in the form of a burrito, bowl, or quesadilla (I have not tried anything else)? Check! Free tortilla on the side with the purchase of a burrito bowl (in a vain attempt to be healthy but ending up eating the entire tortilla anyway)? Check! Chipotle, I love thee! I must have been here at least 3 times this past week. You just never fail me!

Good food and like others have said...it can get packed at lunch time. They do a pretty good job of getting you though quickly. The prices are reasonable but they do need to give a little more on the portions. I got a chicken bowl and got a spoon full of chicken. My friend, who was next in line, asked for half beef and half chicken. He ended up with a spoon full of chicken and a spoon full of meat!!?!?!?!?! (@ _@) (NOTE TO SELF... ASK FOR THAT NEXT TIME) It is nice to set outside on their patio and enjoy the sun and fresh food though.

I've been to Chipotle located in various places -- and don't get me wrong, I love Chipotle and the food is always good -- but the one in La Jolla has terrible customer service. The workers always look annoyed and they give you the smallest portion of each topping, even when you ask for a little more than what they had already given you. I understand that the economy has been going down, but really? And mind you, I'm not just saying this because I'm a fatass and like to have large portions of food -- they literally would scoop half a spoon then shake it off until there's about a fourth left and put that on the bowl. Two stars because of the service, but other than that, never disappointed with Chipotle itself.

I've not yet experienced the portion size that others have mentioned. When I went, my burrito seemed like a standard Chipotle burrito. I don't doubt the others' reviews; especially since there were so many of them, but perhaps management is catching in? Anyways, other than that, this seems like your run of the mill Chipotle, as you'd expect. We all love Chipotle for their dependability: their fast service, clean decor, and most importantly, consistently high quality food. That was why it disconcerted me at first to see the reviews re: portion sizes. Maybe this is indeed a hit-or-miss branch, and I simply landed one hit when I got there. They do have booth, table, and high chair seating indoors, and some tables outdoors. It was surprisingly not too crowded during early evening dinner time, although I've yet to experience lunch time here. I can say that the UTC Costa Verde branch seems much more crowded at dinner.

Fast, simple, high-cal, artery-clogging food. Although when you're so close to Mexico, you wonder why you would go to a fast food chain for a burrito, sometimes you just want the taste of Chipotle. There's that hint-o-lime crunch in your chips or corn salsa they get just right. The workers are pleasant and are willing to make your order any way you like it (seriously, I saw someone make a "quesadilla" which was really just a cheesy, toasty burrito) And hey, at least you know you won't get food poisoning from your organic, free-range carnitas!

I always enjoy the food at Chipotle anywhere so this specific place is no different from the other Chipotles I have been to. I personally like getting a bite before watching a movie at the AMC theater or the old indie theater across the street. It can get a bit crowded especially night time but that's what you should expect out of a Chipotle restaurant. Service is pretty quick when you consider the never-ending line so take note of that if you haven't eaten in days and you find this Chipotle out of nowhere.

Chipotle is great... quality ingredients, great taste and good value. My office is very close to this location and ordering lunch for a group of people is awesome. Ordering online is super easy, you just put all the e-mail addresses of the people you are ordering for and they are sent a menus to chose what they want. Once everyone selects their order you just sent it in and within 15 mins in ready! You can pay online or in the store when you get there.

I LOVE Chipotle. But, this location always seems to have a gruff manager on duty. He is an asian guy. You'll know him when you see him. He is the one that can measure out an exact serving of cheese every time. Ask him for some more... go ahead. He'll look at you like you just used one of the big 4 swears, over the loudspeaker at a church. I always wonder if he, personally, has to pay for the extra .01 cents worth of cheese I asked for. It really looks like a burden on him when you ask. Steak bowl... extra corn salsa. That is the way to go.

I go to this Chipotle pretty often, as its close by my husband's work. The last 2 times I have gone during lunch I have gotten -raw meat-. The first time it was raw steak. Ok, maybe a fluke...bad cook, whatever. This time it was completely raw chicken. RAW CHICKEN. It was only barely seared on the outside but otherwise was completely raw. I was so completely disgusted that after they re-made it I could not even eat it. The raw chicken was mixed in with the cooked chicken and I'm pretty positive they didn't dump out the container I got my chicken out from. They didn't even seem remotely concerned after I let them know that the chicken in both my husband and I's bowls were raw. Isn't this a pretty big health code violation? Either way I will be reporting this location to both their corporate office and the health dept. Two times, this is not just a fluke. Do not eat at this location.

This place can get PACKED, but the line moves pretty fast. Usually the staff is very friendly and helpful when making your food. When they're busy, of course they're going to be less attentive, but they're just throwing food onto your burrito, or in your bowl, so it's hard for them to really mess up.... Usually I get the chicken burrito, but I'm going to start getting the steak from now on because it's more flavorful. My favorite thing is the corn salsa....really adds to the burrito. But you don't have to just pick ONE salsa....nooooo, go for it and get them all! PLUS, you can also order BOTH Beans!! These burritos get SO big I'm shocked when they can actually roll them up into a solid burrito, and surprisingly they don't fall apart when you start to eat them! My husband says this is one of the only places that fills him up with 1 meal. One more thing....they serve Beer, and one day I was wondering if there were any people that went to Chipotle and ONLY ordered Beer, and it just so happened that a friend of mine had just gone to Chipotle that day to drink and ordered no food!!! So apparently it's a good spot to chill with a beer.

This is by far my favorite chipotle in San Diego! I feel like the service would be a little lax since its in the Ralph's parking lot where all UCSD students go, so this chipotle is also the busiest one I've encountered. Despite all of that, this chipotle is my gold standard and I couldn't be happier with it. Maybe it has a little to do with the nostalgic factor, being that I lived right behind this plaza for two years during college, or maybe it's because they're so consistent with the quality and service (one of the girls there actually knew me when I would come in and always made a point to say hi and have a little small talk with me, how nice!), but whatever it is, I will not stop coming to this chipotle. I think I heard somewhere two brothers (or some familial relation) co-own/manage this chipotle. Whatever the case, I'm pretty sure I've seen you guys I'm action and I say good job! You guys have made this chipotle my gold standard for how a chipotle should taste in San Diego!!!

Quick, easy, straight-forward and very filling. I always order the vegetarian burrito with the onions/peppers. Get a huge bottle of blackberry IZZE and I am HAPPY. The only thing that sucks: PARKING. Everyone in La Jolla knows that whoever designed the parking lot was insane. Tight parking inside a maze. Car accidents welcomed.

I have to say, I support local food establishments more than chains in a heart beat. but dude...there is just something about chipotle. it really makes me happy. the whole concept of fresh food served quickly is so effective IMO, and puts a new and better spin on the fast food industry. I come here every once in a while on lunch breaks since it's down the hill from me. Word of advice...go at 11:30 and it's a world of difference from noon. This is the order of events every single time: I walk in, order immediately (or 30 seconds later) pay around $7 sit down and look at the huge burrito wondering how the hell to approach it ...almost feel embarrassed for eating the entire thing in one sitting and not even being overly full. well damn, now I HAVE to go running after work. leave to see a line all the way to the door, and think 'ha, glad that wasn't me' -- I'll bet you most of the negative comments about the place is that its too crowded. Well come at peak time and yeah that will be the case. It's fast, cheap, delicious, and near UCSD. Much like most food places I'm enamored with, they keep the food simple. I think that is why they are successful both in food and efficiency. I mean, I've never seen anyone sit there going "ummmm what should i have?' Dude, burrito, burrito bowl, or tacos with your meat of choice. That's it! It's great. For indecisive people like myself it's a haven to make us look less indecisive! Oh and the parking lot here sucks. Be careful that you don't run someone over or drive your car into one of the poles trying to figure out where the hell you can turn into. Sheesh. Who designed that shopping center.

"She's a super freak, super freak..." Ok, ok...more like a CONTROL FREAK. I love places that let you customize your meal. Yes, I'm the person who goes to Ye Ole Fine Dining Establishment and manages to "tweak" the house salad till it looks and tastes nothing like the original. Chipotle's set-up is great b/c their menu is small, but they totally let you take charge of what you want in your burrito. This equals UNLIMITED OPTIONS and makes this control freak very happy. My food is also prepared right in front of me so I can tell the server just how I like it ("More! I said MOREEE sour cream!!!"). It also assures me that the server, who is now completely annoyed with my constant micro-managing, won't spit on my burrito. I always order a burrito w/ steak, black beans, rice, fajitas veggies, tomato and corn salsas and all the extras. To whet my palate, I get an order of chips and guac. According to the Chipotle Calorie Counter chipotlefan.com/index.ph… my meal comes up to... ...1775 calories. Whew...good thing I ordered that Diet Coke. Gotta look good for tomorrow's Yelp Elite event, right? ---- PS. Chipotle is also a sponsor for Team Garmin! Check out the burrito on the bottom right of the cycling jersey! cyclingweekly.co.uk/imag…

Despite being labeled as a Mexican grill, I still refuse to believe that Chipotle is anything close to Mexican food. In fact, Rubio's is more Mexican than Chipotle. They lack anything greasy and the cheese isn't even melted. Despite this, Chipotle still makes one tasty burrito bowl. My favorite is the barbacoa fajita-style with plenty of sour cream and guacamole. Without the tortilla, the whole meal is only 700 calories, which is pretty good considering alternative fast food options. The service here also varies. If you're lucky and you get a server on a good day, they will give you whatever amount you ask them, but they are otherwise stingy on the ingredients. Also gone are the days when college kids got free drinks. This place can get expensive (nearly $8) for a meal, but you will end up full and satisfied.

Ahhh...chip-a-chop-le....chi-pooodle...Chipotle! Actually my very first venture to Chipotle was this one right here in La Jolla. It was when I was in college, so it's been awhile. I ordered the burrito, and was amazed by the huge doodie looking foil. The burrito was really good...we both finished our burritos and my friend made a comment about how in a few hours we'll probably have to take a big shitters. We were studying at the library for most of the day...and suddenly, almost instantly we gave each other a look...yup, we both had to go #2. We just laughed, it must have been the big ass burrito. Perhaps thats T.M.I, but I just thought I'd share. Anyhoo...I visited UCSD for a John Legend concert, which by the way was excellent...he's so HOT. So we decided to go to Chipotle before the concert. It seems to be the go to place for me and my friends before a concert, I dunno why, but it just happens. I opted for the burrito bowl with chips instead of the actual burrito. I love the rice here...and the chicken. Not so much the steak, because it is sometimes chewy...ewww. But I love the corn salsa, and the tabasco they have lying around. I like how its easy, fast, fresh, and convenient. Also I dunno if they still do it...but when I was in college, you just show them your school ID and then you'll get a free drink! Hell yeah, I'll take a free drink...when your in college you'll take anything you can if its free. I give it an extra star for the free drinks...this Chipotle is A-Okay in my yelpinion.

There's no reason for anyone to give this place less than 5 stars. The food here is AMAZING. Seriously, my boyfriend would eat here breakfast, lunch and dinner if he could. I'm not much of a mexican food lover, but I have to admit, their chicken is unlike any other. YUM! Yes, there sometimes is a long line, but don't be discouraged.. it moves VERY fast! Every time I go to this Chipotle it's great food, fast, friendly service, and is always clean. There's seating indoors and out. I can't think of one negative thing to say.

I don't know what kind of food Chipotle is. It is not real Mexican or American, maybe "Tex-Mex"? Whatever it is, this shiz is bomb! They just add all this food in a bowl and Eureka... happy stomach! I think the key to their success is their use of fresh and organic ingredients. Ever tried Chipotle chicken? I wonder how on earth do they make their chicken meat so soft and tasty. If you're a Tabasco addict they have all the flavors so enjoy. I come here at least once a week because it's right by my apartment. I place my order on the iPhone ap and when I get to the local my food is ready to go. They just ask my name and they hand me the food. Just like that. Easier than a drive thru. There's usually a long line because there's many students around and where else can you get a fresh organic meal that's good for 2 for less than $7? I hate the parking since there's so many stores in this plaza. It has the most retarded parking lot I've ever seen. The employees at this location have always been excellent and always have my food ready. Ilessthanthreeyou Chipotle!

Our family loves this place! It's conveniently located by our house, the service is fast, and the ingredients taste better than when I make my own burritos at home.

Chipotle will always be satisfying, especially after my first final! I don't have to go in depth because I'm sure everyone knows what Chipotle offers. My Typical Meal: 1. Burrito Bowl with... a. Half Chicken, Half Steak. Yes, you can do this. Best of both worlds, just ask! b. Mild Salsa, Medium Salsa c. Corn d. Onions and Bell Peppers e. Lettuce and Guacamole for an extra $1.80. It's totally worth it, and they stack it with two spoonfulls! On top of this, you can spoil yourself with their chipotle tobasco and jalepeno tobasco! They actually show the amount of calories on the headboard now, so you can take a look at it before you order. It helps alot to eat healthy!

This particular location is extremely busy. I had never seen such a long line at a fast food joint before. Amazing how the Villa La Jolla Mall has been overtaken by UCSD students. I usually get the three hard shelled tacos, giving me a chance to try three different kinds of meats. It wouldn't be perfect without that extra guacomole on top. Chipotle is real solid fast food. Quality ingredients, and a nice sit-down atmosphere. I dig the industrial theme. Here you have a winning formula.

So, it's a chain. And McDonalds owns it. And it's basically American fast food. In a town just north of the Mexican border. SOOOOO WHAT???? I'm from NY, I think this shit tastes great. In fact, it was introduced to me by a native Californian (born and bred) who truly believes that Chipotle makes the best - and biggest - burritos in town. So, he's my ex-boyfriend and I still have a thing for him. SOOOOOO WHAT???? A little trick he taught me: after they shove in the beans, rice, and meat, basically ask for "extra" everything. As in, "Oh, I know you just put cheese on it, but can I have a little extra?" or, "Gee, that looked like a nice helping of corn, but would you mind putting in a little extra?" We used to have contests to see whose burrito caused more distress when it came to wrapping-time at the end of the production line. I definitely made one or two of them sweat.

I love love love love Chipotle. I recently came back from 5 weeks in Europe and was CRAVING chipotle. The food is delicious at every location (i suppose that's how it should be, being a chain) but this particular Chipotle is the one I come to all the time. The line's can be long but the pass quickly. I somehow always manage to get there with no line though and by the time I get my food there's a line to the door, people really just come in waves here. They're always really accommodating, if you ask for a little more meat they'll give you a little more, I always ask for A LOT of cheese, and I've never once been given less than I wanted. You can also order on their website and pick it up in the restaurant, skip the line and go straight to the cash register. Online you can even ad notes in case you want something else in your order (like extra cheese :P ) The portions here are HUGE, i get the burrito bowl because I can split it into two regular sized meals, the burritos tho are another story, those things are HUUUUUUUUGE. Sometimes I get a bowl with the tortilla on the side (no additional cost) in case I feel like having a bowl but maybe making mini burritos later. I have so much love for Chipotle!

My new favorite place!!!!! I am in love with the Steak Salad. The dressing is so addicting and the perfect measure of sweet and spicy!!! This is the cleanest and biggest location I have been to.

Huge fan of chipotle!!!! Friends and I were in La Jolla for some fun adventures yesterday and wanted to eat something fast, and healthy and not so expensive. Yelped the fast foods in the area, and after a long afternoon Chipotle definitely sounded super good at the time. Our gps took us in circles to this particular plaza, leaving me to think "is this plaza new? Or maybe they installed new traffic lights...." The plaza itself is TINY!!!! Barely any parking... There's a trader joes and Starbucks next door... But the plaza seemed to be still under construction? Anyway, about chipotle. Very friendly staff!! A little stingy on the food items and toppings, and I was afraid to ask for a little more being that I'm not a very confident girl in eating so much. But it was enough to get my fill... And then some. Fast service, humorous cashiers, what more can you ask for? Don't forget to tip them at the end of the transaction, they deserve it!!! Ps. They definitely keep their restaurant clean!!! I like!!!!

Management here is awesome. When they make a mistake they comp you or give free chips and guac. I've eaten here more than any other eatery, probably ever in my life. Always a good experience.

First of all, I love Chipotle. I used to go to Chipotle 5-10 times a week.(Yep, that's more than once a day sometimes!) This specific location has been hit or miss though - the size of the burritos I get usually range from too-small-to-consider-a-meal to passable. I used to get pretty satisfying burritos back at my old Chipotle (bay area), and going to this one let me down a few times. Occasionally I'll get one that's up to my standard of size, but more often that not I end up disappointed. Also, workers are really nice - you can see it from how they treat you, while others seem like they do everything they can to avoid smiling and making eye contact.

I genuinely like Chipotle. However, I dislike this Chipotle location. All the Chipotle's always have long lines, but they go pretty fast - so that is not a factor in this review. I got a steak bowl...and I literally counted 11 pieces of steak cubes. When I go to other locations, I normally get twice as much steak when I just eyeball the meat portions. Then comes the amount of cheese - yes, we shouldn't be eating that much cheese. Do I care? No - so I always ask for extra cheese. However, at this location, the total amount of cheese I get even after asking for extra cheese is half as much as I'd get elsewhere! As for lettuce - probably one of the cheapest ingredients they have......barely tops off my burrito bowl. I usually like my burrito bowl overflowing. The burrito bowls I get from this place barely top just the paper bowl. At other locations, the servers have a difficult time containing the bowl's contents. You'd think after all the complaints on this location regarding portion size, the management would do some better training with employees or something.

    (2)
  • Princess Jasmine J.

Save your time and money. This location is one of the worst in San Diego. They always give me the smallest portions. I got half of spoon of rice and half a spoon of beans......the employees do not know anything about portion size....it;s an amount for a little birdy not an adult. I will never go back to this location again. I have given this location many chances but they are not improving. And the manager doesn't know anything!! He needs to step it up!

    (1)
  • Richard S.

I love Chipotle, but the workers at this location never seem to give me enough food. I always have to ask for more, but am reluctant to do so due to the glares the employees give me when I do. All in all, Chipotle is bomb, but this location blows.

This is my go-to place if I want to order one thing and be completely full before I even finish it. I'd also say that Chipotle contributed significantly to my freshman 50 (okay not really 50 pounds, but it sure felt like it after eating here!) Chipotle is pretty average overall, nothing too bad and nothing too amazing, it is the quintessential tex mex american mexican food, so don't expect amazing authentic mexican food! Fast service, cheap prices, and delicious burritos, I'll come here when I don't really have any other options.

quick rant! :X came here because of the buy 1 get 1 free deal. So, i got to the end of the line and presented my coupon. The lady was packing the food, and I assumed she saw it cause it was this GIANT piece of white paper waving in front of her. (AND everyone in front of me also had the coupon!) She ignored the coupon and charged me regular price. I overlooked and gave her my credit card. Then as she was handing me back the credit card, I asked if she got the coupon in there. She said "oh it's too late. you needed to HAND it to me" WTF! Argh! So mad. alskfhiegjeoibne.. Sigh. Whatever. I don't come here often anyways. Food is great. But this experience will stop me from coming here for a while.

  • Michelle L.

Seriously? one scoop FULL becomes 1/3 scoop, and the lady seriously was scooping half spoon full and then dumping half or 1/3 of that half back into the original dish. What's worst is that she did it with tomatoes, corn, and salsa sauce. I couldn't believe it!!! And when I asked "can I have more tomatoes?" She gave me that look, then scooped 1/4 spoon into my bowl. I paid almost $8 for a bowl that's only filled half its size. The manager should really pay attention to whomever is scooping the salsa, corn, lettuce, etc! (This happened on a Tuesday noon)

so freaking busy, full of students, annoying. i won't come here again, i'll go to one with non students. it's just less packed and you dont have to wait like 15 minutes in line. they sure do pack the burrito though. one of the lady didn't know what went on a burrito bowl...which was weird...whatever.

I love me some Chipotle. The vegetables are organic and the chicken and beef are mostly organic without hormones. I feel wonderful knowing that what I am putting in my body is healthy. Just go easy on the cheese and sour cream. The staff is always fun, friendly and fast. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the parking is tough. It seems that it's almost always full. I guess because everyone is eating there. hahaha. There are such long lines at Chipotle but they staff makes them go down fast. I am never waiting long and there is always plenty of seating.

AHHHHH. Okay, so I'm REALLY not a Mexican food fan, but for whatever reason, I really LOVE to eat Chipotle's burrito bowls. I love the seasoning on their steak and it's never dry for me. Their cilantro-lime rice is delish! I've attempted to make it myself and I can't seem to get the right mix of ingredients so I love to get extra rice on my bowls. Their tomato salsa mixed with their corn salsa is wonderful! Adds an excellent sweetness and texture to the bowl. =) I know that some people order bowls then get a tortilla to go with it because I'm pretty sure there's more food... filling? in a bowl than if you get a burrito. SO if you're a big eater, that might be the way to go for you! I've never done it, but I've heard there's no extra charge. =) I also crave their chips because they have this hint of lime that adds a burst of flavor in my mouth!!! If I could, I would have it every day! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Halloween is coming up and if you go wearing some aluminum foil, you get a free burrito, bowl, taco, etc! Just one per person, and there is usually a long line, but it's a free meal, right?! I definitely think it's worth it! I usually bring some extra foil just in case some people don't know about it and don't have any. Ralphs is also right next to Chipotle, so if you forget, you can go by a roll of foil so it's not a complete waste. The cost of foil is less than the cost of a burrito! =DDD EDITED 10/13/2010 I just came back from Chipotle and I found out that the Halloween burritos are no longer free. =( It's now $2 for a burrito, taco, bowl, etc. But you have to dress up as a processed food! =(((( chipotle.com/en-US/fan-a… for more information. Sad day for me.

I waited 15 months before giving Chipotle another chance... Figuring the break might give them time to change their desire to ruin me and my apartment's great plumbing. They have not changed their ways. I guess I'll see you in March of 2011.

While I generally stay away from reviewing fast food chains as my opinion of such establishments tends to be rather low, this Chipotle location frequented by students next to UCSD campus in La Jolla deserves a special mention. The greasy, pseudo-Mexican food they serve here may taste okay, but don't mistake it for a healthy meal - the humongous burritos stuffed with low quality ingredients drenched in oil will have just about as much positive effect on your health as a stopover at MacDonald's. Sure - you could do worse - but given the $6-8 price tag of a meal here, factor in the cost of time you'll spend waiting in line for your wrap plus medical expenses a few years down the road and ask yourself, "is this really the way I want to treat my beautiful body?"

  • Lauretta L.

I always get the chicken fajita burrito with lettuce, cheese, extra pico and extra bell peppers/onions. With all the extra stuff it makes my burrito HUGE even though it doesn't seem like I really added much. It costs only $6ish & fills me up for an entire day, so yay! The only annoying thing is that you need to pay attention to the people filling up your burrito because they're very automatic sometimes and just put all the sides (sour cream, etc) in without asking. They should also bring back their free soda for UCSD students :( All in all, really good fast food burritos that actually seem healthier!

Oh the genius that is chipotle! I've been a fan of chipotle since I was in high school (5 years ago). I've been a frequent customer at this particular chipotle during my last 4.5 yrs at UCSD. The service is always friendly here. I always order the same thing - vegetarian burrito bowl with the tortilla on the side. In the last few weeks during the BOGO coupon, my roommate and I went here 5 times (poor graduate students that we are) and I can still think about eating more of their delicious rice and toppings. On our last visit, the people working were SUPER nice and gave us like enormous portions - and by enormous, I mean we brought it home and weighed it on our digital scale and it was 4.5lbs each. FOUR AND A HALF POUND BURRITO?! amazingly, absolutely amazing... and because of the coupon it was only like $3-4. Chipotle, you definitely know how to feed poor graduate students, and for that, we love you.

  • Jeff S.

Definitely agree with a lot of the reviews that the portions here are way smaller than at other locations. I feel like a fat ass when I ask for more, so usually don't. Other than the small portions it's just a normal Chipotle.

......nothing like watching your burrito get so stuffed that the tortilla rips open.....just to see it bleed guacamole and salsa fresca.....while chucks of steak, corn, and beans immerse the plate....a true destruction zone when ur all said and done..... :-o

I admit, I used to be a big Chipotle fan. I bought into the hype of my fellow college aged peers. Yet now I truly see Chipotle for what it is: an overpriced cafeteria. As I stepped up to the beginning of the counter to order my food I could feel the pressure was on. The people behind the counter were working at a rapid and hurried pace, even though it wasn't very busy. It created an anxious feel, like I was being rushed and herded like a sheep. The staff was practically throwing and slinging the ingredients into the bowls and tortillas. There was no art or care to it. I said "I would like soft tacos, please", and as soon as my tortillas came out of the presser, she started immediately filling them with ingredients without even asking what I wanted! Even if I tried to tell her what I wanted, I couldn't have because her focus was merely on getting the food down the line, not pleasing the customer. I quickly corrected her, and after many hurried tries, I got a semi-correct version of what I wanted. The ironic thing is that by trying to rush me, it actually took longer because they kept messing up my order! They are also really skimming on the ingredients lately. I had to ask them to put more cheese and beans into my tacos, otherwise they would've been skimpy little tacos with nothing in them. This is the worst place for picky eaters like me. If you don't like everything on your burrito or taco, too bad! You're going to get it anyways. Or you will hold up the line trying to correct your order multiple times before they finally get it right. When I finally sat down to eat my food, it just seemed so bland and mediocre. It was at this moment I realized what I fool I was for paying $15 for cafeteria food for two! Terrible staff, bad food. Never again, Chipotle.

Nothing special about this Chipotle. The proportions of anything you get will change from time to time, so if you look at it in a positive light it makes what you order more exciting if you're a creature of habit like I am. Also, too much sour cream, TOO MUCH!

  • Rory L.

A Chipotle is a Chipotle is a Chipotle. What more can I say? Usually I wouldn't bother to rate a chain restaurant , but this one leaves me with a particularly satisfying food baby. They herd customers like sheep down the burrito bar line, but they work fast. Next thing you know, there's a giant burrito in your mouth. My favorite thing; Veggie burrito, no onions/bell peppers w/black beans, CORN SALSA (a must), tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, sour cream, rice and definitely guac. They also have these bottles of smoked chipotle flavor tabasco near the drinks and all the condiments. It definitely adds a nice smokey flavor to the burrito and getting one to-go is just not the same.

I called Chipotle to find out if they serve organic food, and was told that what they serve is organic or natural. Yesterday, I ate there and asked about the corn salsa. It is GMO corn, and I can't believe that a restaurant that says it is all about healthy, natural food is serving GMO's. I would like it a lot more if there was no corn salsa and Chipotle's was not feeding us food with ingredients that will negatively impact our health. I like their food and the premise that it is healthy. Chipotle needs to clean up your act and serve only decent, healthy food to your customers, if that is what you are going to call it.

When I feel like eating a burrito, but without the potential heart attack afterwards, I come to Chipotle. This particular location always seems to be packed, but the lines move fairly quickly. Just try not to come here during peak hours. When it's super busy I usually start feeling bad for the workers.. Then that all quickly changes. Like for example, today it was busy. They all seemed stressed out from churning out 1000 burritos an hour. Then I get my burrito, and its got a few slivers of meat, overabundance of beans, a dash of sour cream, and to top it off, its rolled into a square. What a damn shame, I'm eating a square burrito. Feelings of empathy for my burrito roller, soon turn into betrayal. Ah well, square or not, it all tastes the same in my belly. Since that situation isn't usually the norm, I'll still give em 4 stars for deliciousness. I remember coming here on Halloween with a tin foil hat on and they gave me a free burrito. I know what you're thinking.. Free food + awesome alien mind control deflector? = WIN p.s. Sometimes at night it gets really cold inside with the A/C blasting. Bring a sweater.

I'll give a solid 5 to this Chipotle. It's close to home and albeit being located in a nightmare of a parking lot, is very convenient! I've never had a bad experience and as I am addicted to this place, I come here very often. The servers are always friendly and they move very, very hastily. What more could I say? You all know chipotle so I don't need any more specificity, so stop by, grab a quick bite and enjoy! Cheers!

mmm...smoked tabasco!! This sauce is so good that I take a bottle home with me every time I go here. Kind of hobo..i know =/ The line here gets a bit long sometimes, but don't worry it goes by really fast. A lot of people like the chicken burrito, but personally I prefer the steak!

This place is especially good when they give out coupons. I rarely come here when they don't give coupons because usually they are small on portions. I love their grill veggies but I don't want sound greedy when i ask for more vegetables... Today I went in there and I let them do their own thing, its still good actually but I think to be honest, it doesn't give me that wow factor anymore like it used to. Just seems to be the same Chiptole I have gone to for years. Staff is friendly. The only thing I will point out is that the food is not hot when I get home. That's the reason why I give them a 4 star. I am lucky if its lukewarm when I get home. That's my only complaint because I live 5 minutes away so to drive home and find it cold when I open it up is disappointing... I wouldn't recommend their steak here, its usually a bit too salty and tough, I don't like my steak to be that well done... I like everything else there just not the steak...otherwise its pretty decent. Bigger portions would nice then I could taste the flavor more. Of all the Chiptoles I have been to in San Diego, Mira Mesa was the best, they were always generous with their servings and food was super hot too when I got home. yes I lived 5 minutes around from there back then... but that is how I became a fan of the food, it was from the Mira Mesa one.

I hadn't been to Chipotle in a while (probably at least a year) until I was trying to decide what I could buy that would suffice for both my lunch AND dinner at a decent cost -- as I am working late today and forgot to bring food myself. After some quick Yelping, I re-discovered Chipotle. Remembering how huge the burritos are, I figured this would do the trick. After reading a few reviews I noticed that this particular Chipotle's burritos are smaller than the norm, but since I'm trying to rock an "eat less than I want to" diet, I thought that would be just as well anyways. Bolstered with this knowledge, and ever the internet geek, I went to check out the online menu and was pleasantly surprised to see that they do online ordering. The process was quick and painless and within 5 minutes I'd picked out the ingredients for my steak burrito and placed my order, opting to pay with my card online for a quicker pick-up process. The wait time was about 20 minutes, which wasn't surprising given that I'd ordered in the middle of lunch hour. After deciding how to time out the quick drive over, I finally left in perfect timing to enter the place at exactly my pickup time. I hate cutting in line so I felt awkward walking straight to the register like the instructions tell you to do when you pre-order. The staff was friendly and quick to assist me (I hate when places just pretend you don't exist because they can) and my order was handed to me within 30 seconds of telling them my name. The guy who handed me my bag was very thorough in making sure that I had the correct order and didn't need anything else, all the while with steady eye contact and a smile - albeit a slightly over exaggerated one. Just a tip for getting out of that parking lot - stay on the perimeter closest to the stores! I drove in a huge circle trying to find my way out, and you need to cross over in the back by the stores because there is a huge wall dividing the entrance/exit all the way to that point. The burrito was definitely smaller than your typical Chipotle burrito, but I was prepared for that. That said, half a burrito was still enough to make me feel like I'd eaten a decent lunch without skimping. The quality of the ingredients felt average. It was fine to eat but didn't blow my mind or make me feel like I will just have to go back anytime soon. It does have that Chipotle flavor to it, so I'm sure eventually I'll get a craving for it but it's nothing I'm going to get addicted to. Overall, this place has decent service with average food. Not a place I'm going to recommend to all my friends, but somewhere I may drop by if it's close and convenient.

One of the best fast food places for UCSD students. I love almost everything about Chipotle, from the rice to tomatoes, from steaks to the guacamole and corns! Almost forgot to mention about the different types of Tabasco sauces =) I usually order the burrito bowl with double rice, no beans with half steak and half chicken, with all the toppings and extra corns! mmm. YUM! ** Guacamole costs $1.65 extra, but it comes free with the veggie bowl :)

I get Chipotle cravings very often and it is conveniently located so close to UCSD. I live in San Diego. I have access to authentic Mexican taquerias and I choose to eat a fast-food chain Mexican restaurant. Great food, fast sevice plus an iPhone app to order your burrito beforehand... YUM! This place never sent me to the restroom so 4 stars for you!

  • Karissa B.

My portions were never that big here. Normally I can get a huge amount of food, but this place was more conservative on their ingredients. The line was pretty long, but it went by pretty quickly. It's an okay place if you want something fast, but considering you're in San Diego I suggest a real mexican place.

I love Chipotle. I usually order online and pick it up.. so convenient! I usually order the burrito bowl with tortilla and extra corn on the side. You get the taste of a burrito without the messiness. =) I think the meals are a good size for $6. I usually can't finish a bowl in one sitting, so it's like 2 meals for $6! 4 stars for the corn.. which is delicious!!

Let me first say that eating a Chipotle burrito is like eating a slice of heaven. I would give MOST Chiptole's a 5 star for what it is but the La Jolla Chipolte make burritos much smaller than other Chipotles. Things you need to be okay with to enjoy Chipotle: What it is: I know its not authentic Mexican food, thank you I get it. Chipotle is none the less delicious. I don't even consider it in the same category as say a burrito shop or Mexican restaurant. And to you nae sayers I would ask what the hell is authentic food in the United States? We Americanize everything in some way. Anyway what Chipotle is, is a giant ass delicious gringo-ized gourmet burrito. The La Jolla Chipotle skimps on there ingredients. I would admit that even a downsized burrito at Chipotle is ginormous but I am used to the big ass burrito from other Chipotle franchises. I only eat half and save half for later, two meals for 6 bucks. I'm down. Overall: Chipotle is not known for atmosphere, you don't take a first date there. It is a big ass Americanized burrito that is more than enough food ( even at La Jolla and there skimpy portions), that is super cheap and delicious.

Yesterday my TA went a little nutty when a student had the audacity to say she didn't like Mexican food and especially Chipotle. First she made that "ohhhh" sound that Japanese and Korean women love to make when they're surprised at something. She continued: "Are you serious? How could you not like Mexican? What's wrong with Chipotle?? Wow, that's crazy." Eh well judging by these reviews plenty of people find there is something wrong with Chipotle. That being said, I honestly like this place. I've only had the burritos. Not sure why anyone would get tacos here. I like the burritos because they have beans and rice in them and aren't full of grease, unlike authentic places down here in San Diego. Let me rephrase that: Chipotle is better at hiding the grease and fat than the other taquerias. Surprised to hear about the poor service comments. Can't recall the workers ever being rude, and yesterday they were smiling and relatively nice. Then again, it was around 4 pm and the place was rather dead. Overall, it is a good chain restaurant. Sure, there is better food out there, but Chipotle is fast, quick, and very edible.

This place started at 4 stars, because Chipotle is good, but not 5-star-worthy in my semi-professional opinion. However, after going to this particular one a few times, I realized for myself what my friend had pointed out: they're stingy with the ingredients. The Chipotle back home hooks it up, and I will review that one shortly, but as for this one, the only time you get a full burrito is when they're trying to use up the last bit of whatever ingredient to make room for the fresh batch. Anyway, that dropped a star from their rating, but the other day, their sub-par service took them down another star. The order began normally, but quickly took a turn for the worse when the server added the steak to my friend's burrito bowl. After she carelessly scooped a tiny amount of steak into the bowl, my friend politely asked for "extra" steak. The server then carefully grabbed THREE tiny pieces of steak and tossed them in the bowl. Still in shock, we moved down the line to the salsa, lettuce, etc, and the next server was even worse! She added a few shreds of lettuce and a pinch of cheese, and my friend had to request more of each. I don't know about you, but when I come to Chipotle, I come to EAT! The ingredients managed to cover the bottom of the bowl, but this was about 10 pounds lighter than the burrito bowl one would typically expect from a respectable Chipotle. I would give them one star, but in my post "meal" starvation, I accidentally threw away 2 of their red baskets, so I felt bad for that. Anyway, all said and done, 2 stars; I've experienced much better.

Five stars hands down! They make a mean burrito which is plenty for two meals. Convenient location next door to Ralphs and the AMC movie theater as well as Starbucks. Never had a bad meal there yet.

I had a bowl with rice barbacoa guac corn salsa and the white rice along with sour cream beans shredded letttuce and cheese! It was so yummy! I like to add a lot of lime to my dish. The only thing I wish that chipotle had is more selection of toppings. Also, I feel like i get better service at the Mira Mesa location. This location is stingy about giving you more food. It kind of seems like a hassle or something whenever I ask for more.

Your standard (amazing) Chipotle menu. The place itself is really clean and spacious. I always manage to find a table for myself. It's a perfect place to grab a quick bite after the movies. I recommend parking a little bit further (e.g. near the apartments or closer to Ralph's because the area directly in front of Chipotle is a death zone due to spontaneously appearing pedestrians and idiotic drivers.

Chipotle is a nice option for a filling lunch. When I don't want to be adventurous, at least I know what I'm in for when going to this particular location. Usually I get a carnitas burrito and there's a wait. The only difference on my latest visit is that I was in and out in less than three minutes.

Chipotle is never delicious and it doesn't taste at all like good Mexican food should. The experience doesn't vary in quality though, so you don't have to worry much about having good food one day and bad food the next - you get a bland burrito every time! I wish there was a good and relatively fast alternative in the area. There are so many wonderful local Mexican places to eat, but they are all a bit too far away from UCSD.

We love Mexican food and have it quite frequently. We enjoy Chipotle and normally share a chicken fajita burrito with chips and guacamole. This is plenty for us. The hint of lime to chips is very tasty. Nice atmosphere and enjoy the different phrases on the cups, chip bag, etc.

Service is pretty fast and friendly, gives very less meat and food I believe every chipotle taste the same... yupp

I discovered Chipotle back when I was in high school and I was hooked ever since. I love that this locations is right next to Ralphs, although parking is ridiculous (the spaces are so awkward and narrow). Try the brown rice with the burrito or burrito bowl! Sometimes the lines could be really long, but it moves pretty fast and there's always friendly service

For any UCSD student, I think this is a staple. it's fast, cheap, and filling. Not to mention close to campus. It's great when you're starving and don't want to think about what to get. Just go to Chipotle, order a chicken burrito, and you'll be satisfied. The cilantro rice and corn is the best! And the chipotle tabasco sauce makes everything better.

What can I say, I like a quick $5.40+tx burrito that I can pick up in less than 5 minutes and be gone! My favorite: Vegetarian Fajita Burrito with rice, black beans, fajita pepper & onion, corn, tomato, medium sauce, 2x lettuce! Avoid heavy traffic by going a bit earlier, like 11:20 for lunch 18:20 for dinner. Minus one star, since I wish they could lower the price for veggie burritos, unless they're willing to increase the size for veggie burritos. I also noticed they decreased the size of their burritos recently... not cool. Minus one more star for cleanliness. Skip the restroom break here and go use the restroom at Ralph's if you have to. My bf used their restroom once and had to wash his shirt immediately due to foul smell from their restrooms. :(

  • Norah C.

Expensive pricing for American style burritos that are worse than your local taco bell. I didn't want to waste money so I had to consume all that madness. Tasted like a gourmet burrito gone bad. I can't believe people talk about this place, just not my style and I doubt it will ever be.

I must say that I really enjoyed this Chipotle. The sitting area is nice and there's a lot of room! The food... as always very yummy. The line... as always long but very efficient. I always get a barbacoa bowl with rice, beans, fresh salsa, and corn salsa.. with guac and chips. my only complaint with chipotle is that guacamole is so expensive!

I love Chipotle, but I prefer other locations over this one. I have been impressed with chipotle for years, but things are changing. They dont deliver the product like they use to. This location in particular has really cheaped out. Tonight i grabbed a chkn burrito and a chkn bowl to go. My bowl was half the size that i have grown accustomed to and the chicken was hard to find.. My husband's burrito was about 90% rice and beans. His beans were undercooked. He didnt finish his burrito for the first time ever! On a good note, they didnt appear to be under-staffed as they usually are. I probably would have returned my food if had chosen to eat there but the dining room is usually dirty so I always plan on getting it to go.

  • Dan T.

This location gets very crowded during peak hours; it can take up to 20 minutes to get to the front of the line. They also tend to skimp on the meat, which is lukewarm half the time. Parking is also a female canine. Aside from that, the burritos are filling and sufficiently tasty as in any other Chipotle. Decent for a late post-workout meal.

I've been here so many times that it is probably a duty to write this review. Realistically, this place deserves a 3.5 stars, but I like to think of the cup half full, unlike some of the other yelpers (no intention to disrespect). As a past football player and a relatively bigger eater, this place is definitely a good place to chow down and enjoy the food. Although the workers can be too fast paced and slightly rude at times. It is definitely worth it. Maybe they're rude because of my unusual order, so I understand their point of view. I usually ask for extra rice, extra beans, extra lettuce and two of the salsas on the side. Without any complaints, my order is satisfied and I'm on my way to a delicious meal. I like to get the bowl because of the larger portions and of course with the tortilla on the side. I never complain about the food because it is always consistent and I expect the same thing every time. What people often overlook in these reviews is the consistency of a restaurant. I consider consistency of service to be extremely important. Many negative reviews talk about a single bad experiences when there are many experiences to look forward to. Try a place more than once and see what you think. It will most likely be different from the first visit. So before giving this restaurant anything lower than 3 stars, try it once more and I'm sure it will satisfy your expectations when you go to a restaurant of this kind (fast, cheap, large). Try this place for consistent cheap meals.

I love Chipotle :) It is my go to place for when I can't decide on something to eat. I always get the bowl because I know I can't finish a whole burrito in one sitting, so this allows for me to not have a soggy tortilla later. Plus its my preference verses the ginormous burrito that they stuff that is practically bigger than my head! Contrary to most belief, CHIPOTLE IS NOT OWNED BY MCDONALDS! However McDonalds did invest for the first time into another company other than themselves. Amazing right? Anywho, Chipotle bought back all their stock from McDonalds. Do some research people... Chipotle is naturally raise, hormone free, amazing food. You get so much for your buck, especially in this economy... it's key. I do love the lime salted chips, made fresh everyday. So good. :) The staff is always so friendly and has a smile on their face.

Okay, so i used to not be a fan of chipotle. The reason is this: I expected a mexican burrito and I ordered as such and the result was meh. The flavors are soooo different that one can't compare the two. I have since concocted a fantastic burrito bowl and NOW I'm addicted. When I decide for a veg bowl I get rice, black beans, green peppers/onions, corn (a must), mild and medium salsa, cheese, and guac. (the total cost w/ tax is $6.03) When I choose to order non-veg, I get rice, black beans, steak, corn, mild salsa. Both are fantastic.

Chipotle is good stuff. We go for the carnitas. My usual is a carnitas salad (with fajitas, mild, medium, sometimes corn, cheese). My wife's usual is carnitas crunchy tacos (hot, cheese, lettuce). Today we went for lunch, and I mixed things up and got a carnitas burrito. I think their burritos have gotten smaller over the years - maybe it's the economy. When i switched from burritos to salad or the rice bowl, the burrito was just a little too much food. now it's the right size again. Portion control? Rising costs of food? I know not. Chicken is good, barbacoa is better, but carnitas is KING! Once we came here, and my wife got the last of the carnitas - emptied out the tub for her order... and the next batch wasn't ready yet. oh sad day. The restaurant is clean, the service is quick, and sometimes the line is out the door. One suggestion i'd have for them: get a regular water dispenser rather than the slow dispenser switch below the lemonade. One thing they can't change is the crappy parking lot. Spaces are rather small, circulation is poorly designed and it's always crowded because it serves Chipotle, Starbucks, and Trader Joe's.

My qualms about this chipotle are unrelated to the consistentlu flavorful chipotle food. I just give this place minus one star for the worker who coughed right over our food in front of us without covering his mouth and another star off for the fact that a vegetarian plate is the same price as the chicken plate. I might not order vegetarian measl, but that just doesn't seem to make much sense.

Chipotle addict. F-cking. Love. Chipotle. No, this is not authentic Mexican food at all! Only things Mexican are the tortillas, the fajita veggies, and the use of words like salsa. But DAMN! Is this some good fast food!! And the quality- that's the impressive part. This is FAST FOOD- but the tomatoes in the mild tomato salsa are not mushy or questionable. These are legit tomatoes! What the heck...in my fast food burrito?! AWESOME!!! Especially loving the Barbocoa meat- Delicious! Sadly, burritos have been getting smaller over the years, but the food is still just as yummy :)

Although Chipotle isn't as authentic as mom and pop mexican taco stores, there's something about it that just makes you keep coming back. (Or maybe just because it's owned by Mcdonald's and their food seem to have that effect also) As much calorie as it withhold, I still love chipotle burrito bowls and hard shell tacos and nothing can stop me!

DO i have to give ANY stars?? By far the worst experience at a restaurant i have ever had. I have been in the restaurant industry for many years and would NEVER say rude things in front or to a customer, regardless of the interaction that i have had with them. First of all, they give the smallest portions of ANY Chipotle I have EVER been to. (This is beside the point). The employees were the worst!!!! The cook was screaming in the back "f*** this" and all this other inappropriate stuff so I thought it was just another disgruntled employee. Then my boyfriend told her he wanted MILD salsa on the side. She gave him attitude and said " I asked what you wanted ON the bowl." He told her and she still got it wrong, doused his food with HOT salsa, which he did not even ask for. He then asked for lettuce and the same woman that was making our bowls stopped and looked at him. "We dont have anymore lettuce." This really disappointed me because one of the main reasons I come to Chipotle is that they always have fresh shredded lettuce that they pile on top. They had old salad lettuce left that look wilted so she sprinkled a few pieces on top. When I told her what I wanted on mine, I asked her if she was sure that they did not have any shredded (because they ALWAYS have some in the back of pretty much everything) she looked at me and said NO really loud, STILL with attitude. I said "Oh, thats disappointing" and let it go. She then preceeded to keep making my bowl, while saying rude things ABOUT me 2 feet in front of me to the employee that was ringing us up. Things like, for example, "You think you can come in here before we close and ask us for lettuce, like we are going to have any? Who do you think you are? Shi*, Not our problem," under her breath. Do you really think I am going to want to come back to this location EVER AGAIN? You are an establishment that should have ingredients until you close, especially because this is a company that is constantly busy, especially right before closing time. Angry and never eating here again!

I use to always eat chipotle in high school until I found out each burrito had over 1,000 calories and then I quickly stopped eating here... . It's weird though because all their ingredients seem super fresh and healthy that you wouldn't think you're consuming that many calories. Their chicken burritos are so delicious especially with the extras of sour cream, guacamole, and cheese... :o BUT, I have learned the healthier and slimmer way of eating at chipotle and have resorted to the burrito bowls or tacos. (Without the extras of sour cream, guacamole , and cheese ) Although not as satisfying, everything here is still yummmy. Sometimes when I'm feeling extra fatty, I order the chips and guacamole. The guacamole is super fresh and creamy!! CHIPOTLE FTW!!

This Chipotle is almost never busy. I have gone there on weekends and during dinner time (but never for lunch so I can't speak to that) but I have never had to wait more than three minutes to start my order. Here are the only draw backs. The parking lot is awful. If I go here I walk won't even bother driving there anymore. Second the speaker system is comically loud. It's as if the managers are in the back thinking, "these people think they can have a normal conversation with friends? F them! We ate going to crank the music up as high as possible."

    (3)
  • Talar P.

We are lunch time regulars at this location (chicken + salad + guac = perfect & paleo!)....everyone on their staff is super friendly and attentive. Today the managers paid for our meals - because we're in there all the time & they felt like it! Woo! High-5, Chipotle La Jolla - see you tomorrow? ;-)

I love chipotle, but this place is pretty skimpy on the meat and other toppings. I don't know if it has to do with the long lines or not, but I like the Chipotle located across from UTC mall better.

burrito bowls are the best. who ever thought a burrito could taste so good when served in a bowl. you can also request crispy taco shells or a pressed tortilla on the side for free! there's almost always a line but it moves quickly. i recommend familiarizing yourself with the menu if it's your first time here. workers move fast and might rush you.

FAQ: Q: So, what's so special about this Chipotle? Aren't they all the same? A: True. But this is where it all started. When Chipotle first opened, I was skeptical. I didn't know what to think. But soon my life changed in magical ways. It's only a mere hop-skip-and-a-jump from UCSD (my alma mater). Q: C'mon. It's San Diego. There's got to be better options, right? A: Certainly! But for a few more dollars than Taco Bell, you get some pretty quality Mexican fast-food. You can't complain about that. Q: 5 Stars, eh? A: Plenty of parking, good food, nostalgia factor. I'd say it gets 5 stars. Q: Remember that Tower Records in that plaza? A: Oh man. I spent so much money there. I'm surprised that my purchases alone couldn't keep it from going out of business. At least we'll have Chipotle. FYI ... I've been to 10 Chipotle locations around Southern California and Las Vegas, NV, so, I kinda know what I'm talking about. Check out my reviews for more locations!" God, I love Chipotle so much.

For a chain, Chipotle is good stuff. You get great food that's made fresh and doesn't taste as processed as a hamburger and french fries. I go here occasionally for lunch, and if guacamole weren't so expensive, I'd put it in my chicken bowl all the damned time. (Yes, that was innuendo) The only thing I don't like about Chipotle in general is that in the ensuing months I've been heading there, it seems like the bowls and burritos are mysteriously shrinking. The first time I had a Chipotle burrito I could barely hold the thing with both my hands, but now it's this squat looking chode that seems unsatisfying after the last bite. (Yes, more innuendo, this time more blatant) If this keeps on going, you better believe I'll trade that Chipotle burrito for a Cali burrito, especially since it'll most definitely be cheaper. But for now, I guess I'll just keep a watchful eye.

Not much bad to say when a 200lb. man gets full on a $6 lunch. Tasty stuff. A LOT of calories (don't look it up, seriously, you don't want to know) and if you put sour cream and guacamole on it you might as well just eat a gallon of ice cream to wash it down... but good cheap fast food at its finest. I love the chicken there!

Whoa! I don't know what happened to this place since I left La Jolla...Why all these bad reviews?! I used to keep this location in CHECCKKK! They LOVED me and I loved them. I got hooooked up with the meat, guac AND the free drink with UCSD ID. I ate there almost 4x's a week. Hence, the belly pouch and extra 10lbs :) Chicken Fajita Burrito, half rice, corn, mild salsa, sour cream, lettuce, and guacamole. YUMMY in my tummy. Oh, and if you're nice and ask really nicely... they hook it up with the salsa and chips 0:) *EDIT* No more free drinks+college ID's. WHAT THE FUCK. But, I still love their food. I got food poisoning TWICE from their food. I'm a champion.

I guess my review is somewhat biased since, on average, I visit Chipotle 4 times a week xD. I mean... it's fast, tasty, healthy, and OK in price. What more can you ask for? I guess you could grab a Chinese chicken salad at Trader Joe's next door, but with 2 or 3 dollars more- you can get a burrito that actually fills you up! If you're into Asian food you could try the Japanese place on the other side of the same plaza? Both places cost about the same but I guarantee the teriyaki chicken/ beef or tempura combo you get will be drenched in MSG, salt, and oil... which, personally, I'm not too fond of. Being a health freak, I actually did some research and found out that Chipotle uses naturally raised chicken and pork, and is working toward using all natural beef and a 100% organic menu. Ehh I've typed too much already xD. Go try this place if you haven't, great food =)! And umm, if you just can't get over how amazing this review is, feel free to send me a Chipotle gift card or two ;-].

As someone who used to work here, I have to say that the staff are incredibly hard workers & they always strive to do their best. Very friendly people - I felt bad saying goodbye, but a job + school was a bit difficult. When I worked there, it was a pain having to stand in the same area for hours. For the most part, UCSD students were always friendly, but the older people tended to be a bit rude. Most were in disbelief that a UC student would even work there (there was actually two of us). Anyways, on to the review! Awesome place, usually clean when it's not too crazy. The place can get a bit messy once a lot of people come. The workers try their best to clean up after others. The line can go by really fast - they sometimes mess up on a order, but don't freak out! They are ALWAYS cool & will make you another one. I've had so many people get crazy because of a mistake I made. Do keep in mind that it can get very loud, so it's not that we don't understand you, it's just we can't hear you sometimes! And no, speaking in Spanish will not make me understand you better. I've had so many people attempt this that I wanted to throw the burrito in their face. Last bit - don't get mad if we don't put those 5 scoops of corn salsa (or whatever else you get) in your burrito. It runs out so quickly & we have to go back and make some more. Furthermore, the burrito can get too big to close! The price is reasonable considering that you get a gigantic burrito. For the most part, the food tastes great, but there are times when I do think that it's not the best it can be. Love the rice & chicken! Overall, it's a great place to eat. Would recommend! Last bit - I know that saying "guacamole costs extra" was a pain, but we have to say it. I know it's annoying, but you can deal with it ;D. New people do come. There were times when we didn't say it & the person would freak out when he/she saw how much the guacamole cost. It does taste awesome though :). Too bad I can't afford it now :(!!

I used to love this place in college. I came here afterward and I seriously hate it. No more free drinks for college students. Food is mediocre at best (I don't know what I was thinking in college). This particular location gets 1 star because of the parking lot. The parking lot here is such a joke. I see accidents here every. single. time. This time? Some lady almost hit my car. Don't go here unless you can walk from UCSD, even then... just go someone else! /rage

This is my favorite Chipotle because of the customer service. This is far from "authentic" Mexican, but every once in a while I'll get a strong urge to consume one of these (super) high calorie meals. I always get the chicken burrito with rice, pinto beans, salsa fresca, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, and lettuce (with the hot red salsa in a cup). I've been coming here for over 5 years and have never had any issues. This place gets busy around lunch time so make sure to plan accordingly because parking here is the WORST!!!!!

    (4)
  • Valerie M.

This location is TERRIBLE for their overwhelming lack of customer service. I've been to other busy Chipotle locations and I have NEVER been ignored when I ask for a little more lettuce. I agree with the reviewer below that they don't seem to give consistent portions. They don't take the time to listen to what you want...I take my salsa and sourcream on the side and before I could finish my sentence the worker had already loaded my bowl. I will never visit this location again.

If you grew up or even spent a considerable amount of time in San Diego, you should be ashamed of yourself for eating at Chipotle. These burritos remind me of the monsters they serve in the Bay Area -- just a tip Chipatootle, burritos don't have to be tasteless to be health conscious. Why, why, why? And is the staff here trying to be rude? They act as if you are in a superior taco shop and should feel honored that you aren't eating burritos fom a place ending in "berto's". Well, I'm not. And I'll take the "berto's" anyday! Food - Grim Staff - Grim I gave it one star because. . .you know I don't actually know why I gave it a star! Maybe because one day I'll try someplace that I REALLY hate and I want to save the impact of a "No Star" review. Chipotle's not even good enough to hate.

My ex-girlfriend likes this place. That meant I had to go there many times, remember what her order was exactly: salad bowel, extra lettuce, steak, cheese, no salsa, and chips with the correct type of salsa. Then drive home with her order. They would get something wrong and she would sigh and say I did not listen to her. Good lord I hated going to this restaurant. I will never go to this location again. I give it two stars because the people that work there are nice. I always tipped them. I agree with the salty comment about their meat though. I do have two coupons for a free burrito from Chipotle. So I will definitely go to the one in Pacific Beach and sit there and eat my two free burritos. I just didn't like going to that one in La Jolla. P.S. I never went and used those coupons. I have gone with my mom a while back since this review and I liked Chipotle both times and so did my mom, so I am giving them more stars. I will definitely go back again. I just will never go to that La Jolla place again because of my baggage.

I don't eat their burritos or tacos. I only eat their salads. I love their salads especially if you add tabasco/lemon to it. The sauce that comes with the salad is pretty good but I don't use it all. Anyways, the salad isn't anything special but it's great if you can find the right sauces to add to it to add more flavor. But this Chipotle only gets 2 stars since they Don't let students get a free drink anymore when you show them your student ID. What the hell? They're right next to UCSD, how can you not offer that to broke ass college students? Also, the service is a hit or miss. I turned my head for a second and the lady was closing my salad up (I took it togo) and I asked her if she added cheese. And she just nodded when really she DIDN'T. It didn't help that some don't even speak good english.

Food is pretty fresh tasting despite how long the stuff sits around for. It's also conveniently next to where my girlfriend works so she and I walk over there for lunch sometimes. The only thing not to like is the parking lot directly next to it. I suggest parking downstairs or near the Petsmart to avoid to psychos and the cramped parking spots

  • Jacqueline K.

I'm sure everyone knows by now that Chipotle isn't real Mexican food, but I think it's good food in general. I've been getting barbacoa soft tacos for years, and I like how the ingredients are always fresh and they even use romaine lettuce (yeah I'm a dork, but I hate iceberg). I would go here for a quick, relatively cheap lunch.

    (3)
  • Mohammad P.

No complain about the food, but the staff is not friendly at all and they don't put enough ingredients (rice, meat, bean etc.) on the dish. As if they are saving them for themselves!!! I try not to go to this store whenever possible. I hope the management is aware of this issue and will take care of it soon.

    (2)
  • Flora K.

Compared to other Chipotles, this one SERIOUSLY skimps on the ingredients! Depending on who you get, but more often than not I have gotten some seriously weak burritos with only a tiny bit of rice or barely any meat. Of course it always tastes good, but Chipotle burritos are supposed to be huge! not skimpy! So it gets 3 stars because it is a Chipotle and therefore good, but for some reason this particular chain gets stingy with their ingredients sometimes.

  • Jon B.

Chipotle is one of my favorite restaurants. Simple, consistent, tasty. All of the ingredients taste very fresh and are rich in flavor. For me, the guacamole is part of what sets it apart. Also, the 3-4 salsa are great. I think most folks that have an issue with Chipotle complain that it is an "Americanized" burrito...and not authentic Mexican food. To me, it does not pretend to be authentic Mexican. It is what it is...tasty, filling, seemingly healthy meal.

I got a chicken burrito from here and had a stomach ache the whole day. I knew it was the burrito I ate that caused the pain because everything else I ate that day was what I usually ate.

My husband and I eat here about once a week. The meat is all corn fed without antibiotics and hormone growth products. It's similar to a fast food subway but mexican food and much faster. The food is great, they really know what they are doing. Don't let the lines discourage you, they move very quickly.

I give it a 3 because they kinda skimp on the ingredients in the burritos, at least, most of the time I've gone here they skimp. They used to give free sodas to UCSD students, alas, more docked points for ending that promotion. Price can't be beat though, and taste is great, like every chipotle... as for it being owned by McDonald's... well, as long as they're telling the truth about its humanely raised meat without possibly BSE (Mad-Cow) or other weird meat problems, then I'm fine with it!

verry good food. I love this place it fresh fast unless some one like me is in front of you , you know the kind. I would like a mixed burrito no this hold the that and extra crap oh man hold the onions, They are so sweet to me. Good food try

What?!?! This Chipotle only accepts high school ID for the free drinks. The cashier said "no" when I flashed my college ID. Um, ok. At least my burrito bol tasted good. And I agree with others that this particular Chipotle is stingy on the scoops. I like my overflowing burrito bols I usually get at other Chipotles.

Chipotle - you never fail in making me happy or satiating my appetite! I'm so happy to see 'greener' meat choices. Thank you!

This specific chipotle doesn't give free drinks for students (which is why I gave it only 1 star to bring the rating down a bit), but overall I would give it 3-4 stars for the food. The food is not bad, the usual big burrito you would expect to get at chipotle, line moves pretty fast even though there are usually a decent amount of people, decently efficient staff and just a pretty normal chipotle, don't expect anything fancy but also don't expect a bad experience.

An okay huge burrito. none of the food here is particularly fantastic. i mean, it's good, but why should i pay 6 to 8 dollars for a burrito when i can go to pacific beach and have a better one for 3 or 4? i will admit that i go here all the time, but it's purely because it's close and quick. the food here is good enough only if you're looking for convenience. note: meat in your burrito will make it a bit spicy and a lot saltier.

I left northern California to escape burritos like these! The burritos are huge, bland, and leave everything to be desired. If I lived in Montana or London or somewhere really far from Mexico this place might get three stars simply for existing. There are so many better and cheaper options for Mexican and Mexican-ish food in San Diego. Even in terms of Mexican-ish food I prefer Baja Fresh, La Salsa, Rubios, and even Taco Bell over a burrito from Chipotle. As I've only tasted their burritos I can't comment on any of their other menu options.

Chipotle r00lz the world. Natasia K is an idiot. I go there for the calories and I don't think there is enough salt. And she skips the tortilla = 300 delicious calories...what a waste if you skip it! My regular order: Steak fajita burritos + black beans, mild, hot, and corn salsas and that's it, skip the sour cream and cheese. If you are getting tacos, you're a fool. The slad, not worth it. Burrito bowl...make sure youg et the tortilla on the side, and then donate it to me. In my experience, the people who work Sundays aren't as good as some of the week day people. They've had to double tortilla wrap mine once in a while = double good.

Chipotle's the place we wander to when I absolutely don't feel like cooking and just want somewhere close. They're part of the McDonald's chain of restaurants and they do a decent job of serving up good food. Its probably not the most authentic in terms of cuisine, but the place is clean and the service is fairly fast. They keep extending their hours since its consistently packed with students and young professionals.

You've got to admire a simple formula that works. The burritos are enormous - perfect for eating half and saving the rest for later when you just want something light, and great for eating whole when you just want to ride a delicious wave of food. If you don't know how chipotle works, well, you should. You make a couple of simple choices and wind up with a delicious burrito, fajita, taco, or salad. I keep it simple and usually get either the burrito or the fajita. The simple assembly-line production means you get in and out even if the line stretches to the door. The ingredients are all very high quality, and they make a serious effort to procure natural and unprocessed ingredients, and everything is nice and fresh. My favorite burrito: rice black beans carnitas (braised shredded pork) tomato salsa roasted corn-chili salsa sour cream lettuce

Have you been to Chipotle before? If not, you should. Have it once, and you've pretty much had the taste of all the Chipotle across the nation, since they all taste the same. Anyways, this Chipotle is like any Chipotle. It's fast, crowded, sneaky portions (as in they just load extra amounts of other stuff except the meat), and a bit pricey for the quality (in my opinion at least). The staff are friendly and the place is well kept. It feels like the business folks love to come here during lunch, because its "healthy" and/or real taquerias are too scary for them. Enjoy Chipotle for what it is. Just don't expect it to be "real" Mexican food. I'd take taquerias like Lolitas, Rigobertos, and Cotixans over this place any day.

carne asada = cardboard chicken = plastic barbacoa = salty mushy cardboard THUS I go there for the veggie bowl! I dont know why, but i loveee their rice, simple with the lil cilantro pieces in it.. yum! and then the corn salsa??!!? and the sour cream and the guac already included? Sorry, but thats my slice of heaven right there. i just to go it and i bought my own tabasco chipotle sauce for home. PS they could be stingy with their food, but you just ask for a little more on it, and they dont charge u more for it. just get the balls to say you want more! ahhaha :) PPS can someone request them to have lime next to the forks and the drinks place? i like coke with lime...

Chipotle. I've been to a few of 'em, this one I probably visit the most. But I don't go very often. It's good. Just basic Mexican food. I'm taking one away for the ordinariness of it (esp. in this town where there's SO MUCH good Mexican food) and the assembly line attitude & look to it, I feel very mechanized when I'm ordering/picking up food here. I'm taking another one away because sometimes it appears that not only are the people working there not really trying too hard, the chain itself sometimes doesn't try too hard either, which for the price I don't think is right. I think this place could be so much more, I'm not sure what exactly but sometimes I can't get past the McDonaldsization of the place - I know they're only part owners of the chain and they keep outta the way & all, but there's something about them that just seeps in there, I can't put my finger on it. Anyway, good but very average - 3 stars.

these guys really know how to handle lunchtime rush hour. folks from all over la jolla hop on over with a handful of coworkers to enjoy food that is fresh and yum. the long line moves quickly, the restaurant always clean. guacamole is included in the veggie bowl or veggie tacos so be sure to get it. they have both red and green tabasco sauce, which just hits the spot.

I love Chipotle I do! Custom made burrito bowls, tacos, and burritos? You stand there, and let them know what items you want in there! Rice, beans, which type of salsa, cheese, meat, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, guacamole, etc. It's as good as making it at home except you don't have to chop everything up or buy it and you don't have to clean up afterwords. Atmosphere is similar to a cafeteria, loud bustley, young and older alike. This location in particular, is ok, hit or miss with the parking. Lunch time can get a little crowded but other than it's just like the others. Love it, no complaints from me.

Not a big fan of Chipotle. I like ginormous burritos, but I had the unfortunate experience of eating a vegetarian burrito here and I nearly gagged. The burrito was way spicy -- spices like that are uncalled for in a veggie burrito (Ramon's in PB has a better version, and that place is a pit.) But a positive aspect of this Chipotle is that they take fax orders. You can print out a fax order form, send it over, then pick up your chow. It's very convenient, too bad the food is mediocre.

You can count on Chipotle for a solid burrito. The tricky thing with this place is that you have go kind of figure out why you want in your burrito. It can be hard to figure out at first, but once you have the formula down you're good to go. For me personally, I need the black beans + lettuce + very mild salsa. Don't get tricked into buying Guac, because that's extra. Also, don't get the vegetarian option they have -- I've tried it several times and the peppers are VERY hot and it destroys the whole burrito. If you're a cheapo like me, make sure to get a cup of water and fill it up with soda -- they give you a very sturdy cup so you can do this. A solid burrito joint indeed!

The ladies can get stingy with the meat, but their steak burritos bols are sooo good... plus they offer you a free drink if they mess up your order too bad they got rid of the free drink with UCSD ID special :(

There are lots of great taco shops in San Diego. (See my other reviews if you need pointers.) This is not one of them. I will say that for a fast food chain, it's one of the better ones. But, again, you're in San Diego -- go get better Mexican.

Simple yet good....... there are only a couple of things on the menu. You tell them what you want in it, and they make it right in front of you. Pretty good and not greasy. Don't get me wrong, I do love the really greasy carne asada burritos at albertos, robertos, etc.....

Omg I was in the line and saw this girl with her taco that had a bug in it. She was complaining to the staff but the manager was so rude to her. There was no apology. I decided not to eat here and probably will never come here. Who knows I might of eaten a bug from here. Yack.

I was pleasantly surprised by this "chain" Mexican food place. Its not "authentic" Mexican food but it hits the spot, especially in La Jolla (there aren't any good Mexican places I know about). This is a good place for lunch but avoid the lunch time rush (usually from 12-130), the line can get crazy long. My favorite is the veg fajita burrito, which comes with rice, black beans, guacamole and grilled bell peppers and onions. You can then add your choice of salsa, corn, lettuce, cheese and sour cream. Becareful though, the burritos get quite large and can be messy once yuo get to the end.

  • Linh T.

You know when you're in the mood for some really bad-good food? Chipotle definitely hits the spot. It's so good but you know you'll be paying for it later.. some way or another. Came here on a Tuesday evening and the service was very quick and efficient. I guess it's just a precaution, but every time I ask for some guacamole, they always tell me that it costs extra.. even though I already knew. I guess some customers don't realize that that extra glob of green goodness comes at a price.

Um, can I get a little beans, rice, and meat with that SALT? They should call this place Chip-o-salty.

  • Marcela G.

by 9:45 pm which is 15 min. before closing they were out of lettuce, rice, chips, salsa. the manager was rude and expected me to pay full price for a salad what was missing four ingredients! either close at 9pm or be fully stocked until closing time. the chipotle by costa verde much better stocked and great service though.

Delicious food, but pathetically small portion. Sunday lunch time, I walked in, waited for about only two minutes despite a long line. I ordered a chicken burrito bowl and the quality is pretty much what I have expected cuz I have eaten in other Chipotle's before. But the quantity! I believe they just wanted to rush through every customer in line and so they were very fast in throwing very little stuff together for each order. The bowl was only half-full (half-empty) when they finished putting it together. Tasted good, but the amount they gave you should be considered a snack at best.

This place has a winning method. As far as fast food Mex goes, it beats Taco Hell any day of the week. Why you ask? Cause I didn't get sick after I ate it. Plus, the food here is decent, nothing too crazy and their burrito assembly line production works well enough to feed the lines of the hungry UCSD students and staff. Basically, you have your choice of 4 or 5 selections. Meat, veggie, bowl, burrito...and then the fixins. I got a bowl which gets you rice, black beans (my fav), sauteed onions and green bell peppers, topped off with cheese, salsa fresca, gauc, sour cream, and lettuce...all of which was filling and good. My bf got a pork carnitas burrito which he was very happy with. Considering the close proximity of UCSD to this location, this place is alway crawling with students at all hours of the day. We went at 9:30 and it was bustling. Also, I felt soo old. Looking around at all the youngin's, I was thinking if I still looked as youthful as I did in college. Probably not. Sure, I still get carded, but I think they ask out of compassion cause if they don't, I grab them and say "What! You don't think I look 18"!!?? Actually, I am glad I don't look 18, I was still going through my awkward phase...it lasted a while ok.

This review is for the students with no cars. If you don't have access to a car, your choice of restaurants is fairly limited. Of the places within walking distance/short bus ride, Chipotle is probably one of your best bets. While a bit more expensive than the hole-in-the-wall Mexican place (5.50-5.90 per burrito), they are filling and generally healthier than most. Without guacamole, the burritos are somewhat unfulfilling. With guacamole, they are decent. If you think their menu is limited, you can actually ask them to make you whatever you want with the ingredients they have (quesadillas, etc). It's part of the chain policy. If you are animal friendly, they also supposedly buy their meat from family farmers who practice natural farming methods. If you are a vegetarian who eats at restaurants that serve meat, at least you know you are supporting good animal living conditions.

i have a few complaints about this place... - the service is bad. they people are rude. they dont even speak to you. and if your ordering your food they get pist. wtf?? -when did they get rid of the student hook up??!! boo to this place!! we're students!! your right next to our school!! hook it up!! other than that... 2 stars because the fajita burrito bowl is that good... with gucamole and sour cream... which they charge 1.50 extra for which isnt cool either

The only reason this place is getting any stars at all is because I think the hard shell tacos are somewhat tasty. Did you know this place is owned by McDonalds? Yeah, it sure is. The burritos? I guess if you like a whole bunch of stuff mixed together and folded into a tortilla then you will love this. I think I will stick to Santana though when I really want some Mexican food. I am also marking this place down because it is littered with pesky UCSD students. =)

Here is my problem with Chipotle: the meat is always too spicy to go along with any salsa and then you end up with a pretty tasteless burrito. I do like the chips though, as they are mighty tasty with their lime accent. so i say 2 stars. also, there are so many great little taco shops in san diego that there is no way that anyone should be eating at a chain like this.

  • Vinay A.

This place was pretty much the staple of my college diet. Visited at least twice a week when they were still giving away free drinks with an ID. For the cost effectiveness of the burrito filling you up and keeping you satisfied, 4 stars.

    (4)
  • Michael P.

Now don't get me wrong, Chipotle can make a mean burrito, but a Chicken Fajita Burrito with Corn Salsa, Sour Cream, Cheese, Lettuce, and Guac is 70 g of fat!!! That's 111% of the fat you should consume PER DAY!!! And that exact same burrito has 3.6 grams of sodium. That's 155% of daily sodium intake! Well, on the bright side, that burrito has 12 g of fiber, which is 49% of the daily fiber you should be getting.

  • Sylvia H.

What makes this place taste sooo good? Perhaps its just the combination of all their ingredients. Or maybe because their rice is unique, unlike other places. My favorite, barbacoa (spicy shredded beef) burrito, no beans, rice, tomato salsa, corn salsa (this stuff is good), sour cream, cheese, and lettuce. The burrito is huge and delicious. They used to give out free drinks to students (show your ID card). Although the last time I tried, they said they stopped doing that. But then again, they did give me a free drink at the mira mesa chipotle. So who knows. Anyway, great place for a great meal!

  • Chris B.

Chipotle has not found a way to let me down. Great tacos (soft or hard) or burritos. Your choice of everything - they assemble the food right in front of you as you tell them what to do. A bit noisy inside, but well worth eating it fresh. Chips are usually cold but guacamole is excellent. Students get free drinks! Edit: I took away a star because of the free student drink shenanigans. Also guys, McDonald's Corp divested of Chipotle a while ago.

Good place to go to grab a quick meal. I like how you can just customize your burrito as they make it and the steamed tortilla of course. They have lots of options, good salsa, good guac, great rice! and free drinks for UCSD students :)

Yay Chipotle! My girlfriend used to work at a Chipotle, so we frequent this shop often due to the cravings we get for it. Although this particular location is not the best Chipotle due the workers in front are not as fast as at most Chipotle's and the food a little inconsistent (chips not always right), it is still Chipotle and still overall delicious. :-)

i don't know why i keep going back here. it sucks. but its oh so convenient to the ucsd campus. but if you're willing and really want a GOOD burrito, nay a BOMB burrito, head towards downtown La Jolla and get Rigoberto's. I'm not sure how you spell it, but it's a 24/7 hole in the wall with GREAT beef burritos. nothing but STEWED meat along with a few of its great companions: stewed-tomatoes, bell peppers, and onions. mmm.

if you accept the fact that this is americanized mexican food, the food is pretty good and fresh. i adore the bols with fajita and chicken. no frills and affordable, quick meal. i'd probably have it more often if not for the insanely scary calorie content even without the tortilla, cheese, and sour cream.

What can I say? I love Chipotle: consistent quality, speedy service, and attention to environmental impact to boot. This location is no exception. The manager here seems especially focused on bringing a great experience to customers. My only regret is that I did not load up on Chipotle stock when I first started eating it years ago.

    (5)
  • Eric L.

Chipotle's food and ingredients are generally consistent across its chains in terms of quality, so my review is solely based on the service. Two words that I could use to sum up my experience after over dozen of visits to this location: Expect Mediocrity. On some visits, service is polite, speedy, and generous (even during peak lunch/dinner hours). At other times, the complete opposite is true (even when I'm the only one in line). I once came across a server that clearly stopped smiling the moment she got out of her interview. I could have taken half of the cashier's positive attitude and give it to this server and he would still be more hospitable than her, that's how negative she was. All in all, the food is great but the service is dreadfully inconsistent. Management ought to do a better job selecting who to hire for their team member crew.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
